Yumi Japanese Restaurant & Bar - Excelsior

I was honestly disappointed when trying this place. I love Japanese food, but from the appetizers to the main course, nothing really hit the mark. The egg roll appetizer was the best part of the meal, and even that was just okay.

My friend and I both ordered main dishes, and for the price point, the quality just wasn’t there. I ordered the chicken fried rice, but what I got was more like creamy rice with chicken. There was nothing “fried rice” about it, and the chicken was very chewy. My friend ordered the Kobe Beef Style dish, and the beef was so tough she couldn’t even chew it. My waitress was good! She was attentive so that was a positive!

For the cost compared to what we received, it just wasn’t worth it. I’ll be sticking with my reliable go-to, Miyabi, which is right up the road. The prices are more affortable, and the food tastes so much better.

AS A SUSHI CONNESUIOR I WILL LIVE AND DIE BY THEIR TITANIC ROLL!!!!!! Best sushi roll I've EVER EATEN!!!! And I've eaten at almost every spot here in Minnesota as well as some places in California and Texas... Their other special rolls are good too but TRY THAT TITANIC ROLL!!!!!!!! (It has lots of raw so if you arent a raw sushi eater.. well.. why are you eating sushi at all to be honest lol)... I LOVE IT!!!!!

This use to be THE BEST!! Last night it was just bad. Service was bad, food was a 2 vibe is dead!! Not worth the money

We had a reservation that we made about five days in advance and the earliest timeslot we could get was 8 PM. So keep that in mind if you want a prime dining spot, you need to get a reservation early. Service is amazing. Good choices of sake, cocktails, and wine. Their menu is diverse anything from sashimi to noodles. They have wonderful signature rolls. The atmosphere is very nice.

We tried Yumi for my birthday since I live sushi and most Japanese cuisine but didn’t feel like driving downtown on a weeknight. It was ok but I don’t think we’ll go back.

The wine selection was good, the liquor selection was whiskey or sake. They had pretty standard whiskey options for a Japanese restaurant, the sand seemed a little diverse but I’m not as knowledgeable there.

We had a variety of rolls and nigiri. The rolls were decent and well priced but I was a little disappointed at how many were based around shrimp tempura. I was surprised and disappointed that even though they have several tempura items on the menu, none of them were tempura veggies. They lacked many veggie options to go with the meal.

All in all, not bad enough that if someone wanted to go I would refuse. Not good enough that I will ever be that person that wants to go.

Phenomenal sushi. Very large rolls, this is our go-to sushi place. They have fun rolls to try seasonally as well.

Amazing food .

Amazing sushi. Surprisingly the steak is great too. The best in town. The hot knight roll and others are exquisite and the service is phenomenal.

One of our favorite neighborhood spots, the longtime employees make the experience great. Suggest it’s time to upgrade their glassware. For the prices they charge for their Javanese whiskey, I would expect a nice glass to drink from.
