Axel's Restaurant Mendota

We were happy to be able to get here for their last day. Axels has always been a go to for us to celebrate special occasions. So sad they decided to close. This location is a hidden gem along the river.

This is a place where I love to belly up to the bar, get my wings, bull bites, a few martinis ? and then talk about how amazing life really is when you choose to look at it that way

Chicken sandwich was dry and fries lukewarm. Bacon overcooked. Popovers not fresh.

We had a truly excellent supper. The walleye fish was excellent, and the service by Patrick was perfect. The manager came to ask if we were delighted or in need of anything. Portions are generous and service impeccable. Those who love nature will enjoy the outdoors patio right on the Great Rivers Bicycle Trail (stop if you are biking), whereas indoors it is a quaint upholstered old fashioned supper club, simply delightful and elegant. Date night? One could not score more points than at this place. Anniversary or special occasion? I would choose this place in a heartbeat. “I’ll be back!”

Bread was stale and dry with a seafood soup. Prime rib was tasteless and augratin potatoes were not good at all. The halibut was good as was the soup. At these prices the food should have been better! At least serve fresh bread!

Awesome first experience. Also, first time having Walleye and it was amazing. Soft, moist, and tasty. Not to mention the humongous onion rings! Drinks were also on point. Staff was friendly and the ambiance was very comfortable. Amazing service and reasonable prices.

Clubby, adult atmosphere, great food, menu has something for every one. They don't rush you out the door after eating. “Go to” place for a quick drink/app or full on dinner. Bar staff and wait staff are stellar!

The service was slow despite the restaurant being nearly empty. The food was cold and had no flavor. Over priced for the lack of service and quality.

Service was very slow. Had a steak sandwich which made me wonder if it was beef. Tasted weird and looked pale in color. What has happened to Axles? Love the atmosphere and our server was nice, but the food leaves a lot to be desired!

Slow, inattentive, and apathetic service. Patrick had no sense of urgency, didn't know what the restaurant had sold out of(informating us of an appetizer 86 after the order had been in for 20 minutes, let me know my 1 choice was gone after a 1/2 hour and then my 2nd choice gone too), and did not have a sense of timing for the meal,(soup with the entry come on you have to be better than that!) which is odd since we were in the restaurant for hours. The general manager lacked the ability to see his server needed help, and I talked to him and had a litney of excuses. I am sadden it see the hands one of the great supper clubs has been entrusted to.

Have been going to Axels Rivergrill in Mendota for many years. They have seen some changes of late, and seem to be going through some growing pains. That being said most of the great staff still remain and are still crushing it. We have noticed a change in the bar atmosphere. I think largely due to new management in that area. The bar keeps are for the most part are great. However there is definitely an attitude and rudeness coming from new bar manager. I hope that things will someday resume to a kinder and more relaxed scene. Go Axels we believe in you.

Awesome server. Baked potato was hard as a rock. Sent it back and I got a new one and it was steaming but too hard. Not edible. Prime rib was delicious . We weren't hurried at all.

Wasn’t wowed by the risotto and it was incredibly warm inside. Seemed like the heat was on in the bathroom but it was 90 outside. Service was great
