Our server was terrific and the best part of the meal. My French onion soup was great, as were the French fries. The French dip sandwich was kind of a greasy mess. My dinner companions enjoyed their walleye and shrimp orders. The atmosphere was very nice. The value only moderate. We'll be back but I'll need to try a different entree.

My friend and I had lunch at Axel's and really had an enjoyable experience! The “order two” lunch option is great, and we both really enjoyed the crab cakes and seafood chowder. Gretta was awesome and made the experience more enjoyable! We will be back soon!

Very nice restaurant with an old school lounge style vibe. Steaks, Walleye, Salads are very popular. The popovers you get with your meal are INCREDIBLE. Friendly staff. Parking can be a hassle but not much can be done about that.

3.5 overall because of the serviceHadn't been in yeaaaaars, finally decided to go back for a date night.Waitress was top notch, very kind and on point with everything. Wine selection was pretty good as well.Food left something to be desired. My wife had the coconut shrimp and liked it. Nothing special she said, but nothing terrible.I had the sirloin steak and it was... edible :). I ordered it medium and it was still extremely tough. It lacked flavor and was overall, underwhelming. The mashed potatoes were fine, and the mushrooms were flavorless and thrown in what looked like beef broth. We both agreed we'd go back for a happy our or something as the vibe was nice, but probably not for a full meal.

seating and service was excellent. We had the fish fry dinner which is very good for $25.00. You get soup or salad, popovers and the entree is two pieces of cod, two jumbo shrimp and a piece of walleye along with green beans and shoestring fries. I had a glass of wine at happy price. They were totally out of N/A beer, however. Always enjoy Axel's!

I love this place. Always a joy being there. Very dark inside to set the mood. Don't GET TOP SHELF HERE. I spent $ 32 on one shot of eagle rare when it's only 10 bucks everywhere else. Complete joke.

First time here, and I was disappointed in the food. I did not get a family friendly vibe, instead felt like they catered more towards elderly and couples. As we were waiting for our food, I heard another patron come in and say they didn't want food because they ate around the corner at lucky's and only stopped in for a drink. Now I know why. My burger wasn't any better than fast food quality, and the bun was an off the shelf variety you'd get at a grocery chain. My wife had the fish, and found that it was bland and full of bones. Every other bite she was pulling out a bone. Glad we ate there for lunch instead of wasting quite a bit of money on dinner. Don't plan on going back for food. The service was fair. Our order was wrong, and they ended up charging us for vegetables that was supposed to come with our meal. All was straightened out in the end, but still a hassle.

This was my first time at Axel's though my wife had been once before. What a refreshing change from most restaurants to not feel rushed. We took our time eating with an Appetizer course, then rolls were brought out, then salad, then entree. We enjoyed our drinks and had a little time courses. I loved it. We shared the Crabcakes for an appetizer and they were big could almost share with four people. We both had the sirloin with salad and two sides. Food was all quite good and we are already making plans to return.

I ordered walleye and it had many small bones which I had to pick out of my mouth continuously. I will never order the walleye again. Our waitress was wonderful! I did not tell her about the fish. She probably saw the fish left on my plate. I had been to Axels the previous week and told my friend how wonderful it was. He ordered the shrimp and said it was not that great. I love the environment. Very comfortable, relaxing. We enjoyed each other's company but dinner was very so so.
