Fantastic vibes, great service, dope tacos. If I was local this is where you'd find me most nights.
Taylor was absolutely AMAZING!!! We came in from Louisiana for a conference and he made these Cajun women feel at home!! He took his time with us, answered ALL of our questions, and gave us the best recommendations (for the restaurant and around town). Taylor was so much fun and embodied what it means to provide exceptional customer service!! Do yourself a favor and stop by this restaurant and request Taylor!!!
I’m in Minneapolis for an educational conference with two of my colleagues, and after a long day of travel, we were hungry and exhausted. We chose Barrio because it was close to our hotel — and wow, what a great decision!
The food was absolutely delicious, especially the mahi-mahi taco — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. But what made the experience truly exceptional was our server, Taylor.
From the moment we sat down, Taylor was warm, attentive, and clearly passionate about both the food and the city. He gave thoughtful menu recommendations and checked in just the right amount. But what stood out the most was his conversation and the genuine eye contact he gave while listening and speaking — a rare quality that made us feel truly welcome.
Taylor also shared some great local spots to check out during our visit, which we really appreciated. His energy, professionalism, and personable nature made our first night in Minneapolis memorable.
We’ll be talking about this dinner — and Taylor’s outstanding service — for a long time. Highly recommend Barrio, and if you’re lucky enough to have Taylor as your server, you’re in for a treat!
Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, but I vividly remember that when my friends and I went there for a celebration, and I ordered the roasted beet salad, I had concluded that it was sadly the worst beet salad I have ever had. I ended up not finishing it which almost never happens to me.
There was so much arugula to the point that the beets pieces were almost completely missing. And out of the few pieces that I found, only about two or three pieces tasted like fresh beets pieces. When I had my first bite, I thought I was biting into a piece of radish. It contained a weird flavor and was extremely hard to chew. Other pieces either had the same weird flavor or no flavor at all. Because there weren't enough beets pieces, the goat cheese as a result was very overwhelming. The orange slices were sloppily given and didn't contribute much to the dish. Both the serrano chile and the honey peanuts provided a good contrasting flavor and texture for the dish, but weren't enough to save it. I scrambles for those two ingredients and enjoyed eating those, but had to leave the rest of the arugula behind.
I wish I had taken a picture, because even when the salad was presented to me, I could see no beets.
Barrio is a great tapas style spot in downtown Minneapolis! I'd recommend a reservation to go here, especially on the weekend, as it is a smaller restaurant. The atmosphere is very funky and more modern, and there's no shortage of interesting things to look at here. Barrio has an extensive tequila list, and they offer tequila flights as well. Our server was very kind and knowledgeable about the tequila, and the food was delicious! Everything from chips and guacamole to tacos to rice was on point! Definitely consider checking this restaurant out!
My date and i ate outside. It was nice and cozy on the patio and the service was great.
The food lacked seasoning and both my date and i wanted salt.
The tre leches cake had coconut on it which was a different flair and twist, it had nice presentation though.
Taylor is amazing and the BEST Cubana in the city!!!!
I paid $10 dollars for a “habanero tamal” it takes 20 minutes to get ready when I saw it it’s so small… so small and dry this is definitely not a good place to get food 🍲 the onions on my tamal are not even cochinita pibil taste, even the name is in Spanish there’s no Mexican food I would never come back again.

I really like the vibe of this place. Had a flight of tequila, all had really distinct flavors. Food came out in tapas portions. Pork carnitas are the best I've had since my trip to Barcelona.

No other place, I know of, where one can get all these original mixed drinks and unique food offerings. Service was especially good last night! As always, it was a great experience.

I've eaten at Barrio and ordered takeout and I both times now have left underwhelmed. The food seems woefully overpriced for the mediocre delivery and portion size.
I did not enjoy the quesadilla, I thought the cheese did not vibe with the rest of the dish by anymeans. The queso Oaxaca was a nice authentic touch but I felt it did not fit with the chicken.
The chicken enchilada was tiny as heck and lacked any flavor. The eighteen dollar price tag is frankly ridiculous for the portion size. One should be wary ordering this dish.
The Wood Grilled chicken plate is another unconscionable portion size for a dish completely devoid of flavor. I found nothing enjoyable about this dish.
Fresh Corn Chowder: I have been harsh in this review but the corn chowder has my highest praise. This was the first dish I ate in my meal and I really thought the meal would be wonderful given the luxurious texture, incredible freshness, and perfect seasoning of this dish.
I support Barrios mission to serve authentic cuisine but I can't provide much for a recommendation given their miniscule portion size, their dishes lacking seasoning, and the pretentious feel of this institution.
