Kake Udon with curry broth was amazing and served super fast.

It’s stupid expensive but it’s easily the most authentic udon you can get in the twin cities. Far be it from me to knock a place for being popular, but for a strictly counter service establishment, seating is wholly inadequate. This place gets 5 stars when I can drive across town to eat here and don’t have to take it back and eat it half cold at home.
Edit: the lady at the counter basically suggested we get it to go due to seating. But then there’s a dude that appears to be queueing people for a table. This was not offered to us. So no consistency in how they seat people. I don’t want to come back until this is fixed. As it stands, you are not poised to survive the north loop restaurant economy.

Best matcha in the city! I have tried quite a few places in the Twin Cities and Cafe Yoto takes the cake for best matcha. You can tell the matcha is good quality and the atmosphere of the cafe/restaurant is lovely. I live out of the country but whenever I visit (which is almost every month or every other month) I always make time to stop here!

1 out of 5 stars — “SECOND REVIEW. SAME DAY. I’M STILL TRAUMATIZED.”
Yes, I’m back. Writing a second review because I genuinely thought I was being pranked.
Café Yoto is giving modern art exhibit — not restaurant. I paid $20 for what looked like a museum display: two lonely shrimp tempuras, one cube of lemon, and a scoop of rice that looked like it came straight out of a child’s play kitchen.
The place screams “minimalist aesthetic”, but they took it way too literally. The food is so minimal it disappeared. I waited 20 minutes for what could easily fit in the palm of my hand.
North Loop, I love you, but this ain’t it. I left hungrier than when I came in — and spiritually confused.

Loved this place! The atmosphere was relaxed with a spacious dining area and the food was superb! They give you plenty of time to look at the menu before ordering at the counter. Food is then brought to your table. They also offer carry out.
Very flavorful entrees. Big portions for the bowls and reasonable prices.

I have gone to Cafe Yoto quite a few times now since moving to North Loop this past August, and I can't recommend this place enough. If you enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine and happen to be looking for the BEST oyako donburi in the Twin Cities, you need to come to Cafe Yoto! They have an amazing selection of food, shareable's, and beverages. Every item I have tried so far has exceeded my expectations.
(Photographed is the yakiniku donburi, miso katsu donburi, oyako donburi, and strawberry matcha latte. All are 10/10 without a doubt)

As a Northsider I appreciate having this casual Japanese dining space so close to us. My daughter is attending high school downtown and this cafe is very convenient to visit after school.
We had karaage udon a the rib eye donburi.
Both excellent dishes and filling.
Such a cute space and conveniently located.
I’m used to parking in Minneapolis so it is never really an issue for me.
My son also works near the cafe so I hope to go back and try more dishes and desserts.

For the price of the udon it wasn’t great. And hardly any mushrooms in it.

The food is OK, but it lacked any real flavor. There’s no spices on the table or available to add to it. They didn’t ask me if you wanted it with a little bit of heat or not.

The place was very clean and cute. Had temaki and it was tasty and fresh. But the udon noodles tasted like miso more than anything. Also ordered katsu and the sauce was too salty it made it hard to finish.
The perfect restaurant. Casual and fast but absolutely incredible food. Mains, Temaki, beverages just everything is standout
