Came to Char Bar for the first time for happy hour on Saturday with Kim T. Char Bar is a speakeasy on the inside of Butcher & Boar (through the glass doors). We arrived around 4:45 pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too crazy busy, we were one of a handful of tables. The hour menu was pretty good! A good amount of food and drink items ranging between $6-10. I had the Chicken Sammy ($10), Kim had an Arby's style 3 Way Beef & Cheese sando ($17), and we split the Curly Fries ($6). I also ordered two of the non happy hour burgers to go ($8/each). I really liked my sandwich a lot, chicken was perfectly crispy, the slaw was savory and sweet, Polynesian vibes. I would absolutely get it again! Kim liked her sandwich but she said the sauce was too much and soaked the bottom of the bun, the curly fries were fine. I had a dragon tattoo cocktail, serenity pineapple rum cocktail, and a frozen rum & cherry coke slushy. Drinks were boozy but pricey! Loved the menu showing the drinks very cute and visibly pleasing. Update: Butcher Burger ($8) was sensational! It's no Parlour Bar burger but it's sooo good, tasted gourmet and traveled well. Fun fact: the restaurant group over Parlour Bar also owns Char Bar! I liked the pickled onions and the chipotle mayo cheese sauce, good solid burger for a good price!
Wanted a special experience for our 30th anniversary. The restaurant is beautiful, very nice atmosphere. The staff was wonderful. Unfortunately I told our waitstaff that I did not like spicy foods and he recommended my main dish which had a pepper salsa on it and cornbread that also had spicy peppers in it. Disappointed in the food. It is not like the old Butcher & the Boar. It looked great, nice presentation. Just not what I was hoping for.

All our drinks were well mixed. The espresso martini was frothy, creamy and bold with flavor. My blonde Russian was made well, good and strong. The curly fries order was a satisfying munchy for our group. Nicely coated and perfectly crunchy on the outside. This is a great place to meet before heading over to the Butcher & The Boar for dinner.

Great spot! Amazing happy hour. Located in the back of butcher and the boar. This woody, whiskey filled room gives off strong speakeasy vibes and the bar stools are heavy but cozy. They have several $6 happy hour drink and food options, I enjoyed a beer, a burger and the curly fries. You could and probably should share the curly fries with someone as it's a good sized portion. Need to come back and enjoy a couple of their fine whiskey/bourbon options.Parking: Free street parking after 5pm

FOOD/DRINKS: I will stand by that Char Bar has THE best happy hour in Minneapolis. They have $6 burgers, brats, + fries, along with $6 cocktails, beers, + frozen drinks. That is a STEAL. There is no where else where you can get such a cool vibe and eat only a $6 burger!! So definitely go from 4-6 pm on a weekday to try their yummy food and drinks. SERVICE: No problem with the service- the staff was all very nice. AMBIANCE: The ambiance is AWESOME- looks like a speakeasy in a library!! LOCATION/PARKING: Char Bar is located in the back of Butcher & the Boar, so you can walk through the main entrance and they'll point you the way. Location is great, and street parking is easily available (or paid valet if preferred).

Amazing service, great ambiance, and good food once we got inside but we almost went somewhere else after parking in their completely empty parking lot and being turned away. I offered to pay the $10 valet fee and leave my keys with the attendant and was told it's a cash only valet parking lot. So, feeling very unwelcome we drove out of the lot and found nearby street parking. The host also couldn't find our Open Table reservation. Again, it felt unwelcoming, but otherwise good!
