We loved Birchwood and decided to try this place due to hearing that they make the same waffles as Birchwood. We went there on a Sunday around 11am and the place was not too busy - half full. They took our order right away. I liked seeing that they had some great beverages in their refrigerated section health wise, such as organic milk and 'healthy canned drinks' for kids. It is not the same as Birchwood with sourcing local foods and/or organic, as far as meat and eggs are concerned when I inquired. They said they hope to someday. The staff was nice and pleasant when I asked them questions on sustainable foods, etc. My husband ordered the trout eggs and potatoes - thought it was excellent. My child and I ordered the waffles. She liked them and I thought they were just okay. They were listed to have asparagus - could not taste any asparagus nor visibly see any, which was disappointing, as that was what I was looking forward to with a savory waffle. Our food was brought to us very fast and was nice and warm. The place was pleasant to sit in - nice music and wasn't loud. I might come back if they do try and become more farm to table. The prices seem to be around that much as other places like Wise Acres, Alma Etc. that are farm to table for lunch. That's what I and friends miss about Birchwood - we were regulars.

This rainy Wednesday was slow at Darling, but I predict it won't stay slow for long. Our food was superb. We shared a side of the amazing, perfectly roasted cauliflower (had the piri piri mayo on the side as it is spicy). My date had a cheeseburger and fries and I had the beef short ribs with breakfast potatoes (because I can't handle milk and there is a little bit in the polenta). Tasty key lime pie. Everything was very satisfying. Friendly staff. I'm so happy that great food has returned to this location.

Tried Darling for the first time today and ordered some breakfast Burritos for pick-up. Burritos were delicious, and we're excited to come back and dine-in sometime in the future!

I’ve been here three times in the past two months. Every time the food I ordered has been delicious, with a lovely presentation. The staff are friendly and attentive but not intrusive. I liked the music playlist so much that I was a little distracted from my conversation with friends! The only thing I would recommend skipping is the maple donut; I tried a bite of my friend’s and it didn’t have a donut-like texture or strong maple flavor. The other pastries I’ve had have been good, and in the case of the croissant, fantastic.

Very creative dishes that at first don't seem could work but they do. Like the waffle with corn & quinoa, you're like 'what?' but it was delish. Or the caramel sea salt latte. But both were so delectable. Kudos to the chefs.
Also the space is beautiful, good vibes, spacious with a good radio / playlist playing.

I hope you try more of the other dishes. I will definitely be coming back.

Service has shot down tremendously. There used to be attentive care here from the workers, but it has since been absolutely lacking since its opening. I did not enjoy the way I was treated here the past two times I have visited in comparison from my other visits in the summer.

We went here for the first time having high hopes but in general we’re disappointed. I have a lot to say.

The good: the coffee was great and so was the atmosphere.

The restaurant is counter service style so you order yourself at the counter and seat your self and get your self water and utensils, I am very pro this style! However it was INCREDIBLY expensive for it to be counter service. I pay and tip for the customer service and payed $100 for three coffees and three entrees the pricing was absurd for what was being given.

The coffee it’s self was very good but too soooo long to get to us we were sitting for 20 minutes before we got our drinks because it seemed like only one person was trained on how to use an espresso machine and was backed up (it was not very busy!)

Then came the food. One of us got soup and salad, one of us got the waffle, and one of us got the corn beef hash, the food took FOREVER almost an hour to come out which again it wasn’t busy so it seemed weird.

The salad and soup: their soup of the day was French onion and I got the lustrous salad. Starting with the soup this really wasn’t a French onion soup more of just an onion soup. French onion soup has bread, cheese, and not a clear base. This soup was a very parted and had no cheese and no bread, so no it’s not French onion but it was onion and still okay! The salad was supposed to have peaches, it said on the menu and it was never mentioned to me it wouldn’t but when I got my salad it had apples and no peaches which was just not want I wanted but oh well I ate it, it was still a good salad but I was expecting peaches.

The corn beef has: we had a server come to us around the 45 minute mark of us waiting for our food telling us they “rung in” the wrong order which wasn’t true as we can see what they punch in when we ordered because it’s shown on the iPad when ordering so idk why they lied to us and didn’t just say the kitchen messed up when they clearly did. Anyway we end up waiting another almost 30 and when we got the corn beef hash the dish was VERY BLAND like almost no salt even. Which is ironic because they asked if we wanted the “spiced version” or not which we ordered the spiced. Asked for a poached egg but it came with a very over hard poached egg. We received no compensation as well for the wait and miss hap and again we paid so much that it just sucked.

The waffle was good! But again took so long

In total did not have a good time waiting on a non busy time for so long was absurd the food wasn’t very good and WAY over priced for what you receive. Would not recommend sadly did not have a good time and probably won’t be back.

Welcome back. Your old farm-to-table, neighborhood hang out spot is open for business and it’s come back with a vengeance (the good kind). By morning, the Heirloom BLT sandwich reigns and by night, a classic and flirty list of cocktails and dinner date night plates await. The staff is stylish and welcoming, best combination. The menu is seasonally fresh and the music is a vibe. Open for family brunch, work remote sessions, and events - a must stop for any Minneapolitan and guest looking to enjoy a lovely patio, a sunlight dining room, or a cozy classy bar.

We went for family brunch. A few options for vegan breakfast, but nothing in the pancake/waffle realm. The tofu scramble was very underwhelming - looked like eggs but tasted like nothing. The kind of tofu dish that makes people say they hate tofu. I also ordered the vegan version of the corned beef hash (which is made with corned beets) but they served me the meat version with a poached egg on top. They remade and were kind and apologetic but that’s bothersome. I hope that food wasn’t thrown away. This strikes me as a place that wants to have a welcoming vibe without actually considering how to satisfy vegan diners. It would have been impressive ten years ago and now it’s pretty disappointing. I hope they figure it out because it’s a great space and location.

The 2 things we had : tofu scramble and breakfast burrito were not very flavorful ( compared to Longfellow or Highland grill)
So our first visit was disappointing

So nice to be back in the old Birchwood space! We really enjoyed the atmosphere, the wait staff, and the menu, though the actual food we were served was not what we hoped it would be. And I wouldn’t blame the cook on duty but, rather, the chef. Let’s just say there’s plenty of room to improve flavors, like the nearly tasteless corned beef in the hash or the maple donut with no discernible maple flavor. Do order a house-made croissant—they’re dreamy!
