I love vegan food but my experience here has been a bit hit and miss. Both the tofu scramble and breakfast sandwich had little flavor, which I assume is down to a lack of seasoning. I know Americans are used to wildly over-salted food, but this tasted like it had no seasoning at all. Not terrible but not great either. Service was friendly and fast, and I’m glad this place is around and open late. I might just need to explore the menu more.

Not autistic friendly, can say that. But over all good.

The food is so good, and the price is low for the quality. The chefs here are great. Atmosphere is good for small meetings with friends or getting some work done, preferably with headphones on, as it does get noisy sometimes.

Cash only!

It’s a cafe, so you’ll be busing your dishes and refilling your drinks.

Food here is fairly good for a vegan restaurant that is open late. Their desserts are excellent, I will give them that. The people are super friendly and nice, which keeps me coming back.

The vegan biscuits and gravy were so so good. The half order was still very filling. I would buy the mushroom gravy itself to take home.

The food is good! Well worth the price, especially for an all vegan restaurant which can be spendy at times. Also, Hard Times Cafe had EXCELLENT non-alcoholic drink options. Between the cafe style choices, the large selection of root beer, and some other non-pop drinks like kombucha, there is a drink option for anyone. The bakery options were also REAL good.

The aesthetics of the restaurant gives vegan punk cafe. They played some cool music too, but not too loud to disrupt conversation or other people studying.

They are cash only but have an ATM on site.

I would definitely go again despite the 4 star review. Might even bump it up to 5 star if I find a dish I really love.

Why did I not visit this place sooner? Comfortable low key vibe, great vegan and vegitarian options, loved it!

Great tasting, quality and ethically sourced vegetarian and vegan fare, run by a collective worker owned crew since 1992. Great place to meet with friends or meet new ones. Diverse atmosphere. Punks, Africans, students, professors, old timers, straight up characters. The West Bank, Cedar Riverside is a storied, historic neighborhood run by local businesses, activists, and immigrants.

Great vegetarian and vegan brunch. Enjoyed the vegan rancheros, which were flavorful and didn't feel at all lacking without eggs. Friendly service and the cafe has character

The coffee is always great, the food is overall good. My complaint is that the breakfast burrito now costs 15$, the same or more than a sit down restaurant. This place used to cater to students but sadly some items got more overpriced.

5 stars for uniqueness of the ordering system, but 0 stars for efficiency and service of that system. You are basically responsible to taking your own order, but not through an app or a QR code: you must write it on a piece of paper that the person working the register (who was apparently extremely stressed out by their job) then read, gave you a total, and took your cash (only, no card) while simultaneously making any drinks you ordered. The person who rang us up had to restart my London fog, and made both it and my friend's chai latte with whole milk instead of the oat milk we asked for (she is lactose intolerant, just my preference). The food was okay. There were carrots in the gravy which was weird, but fine. Everything was both too salty and otherwise unseasoned.
