This place has the WORST food with the BEST atmosphere! So if you are going for drinks and that’s all, this is your place! This is not authentic Mexican so if you are looking for cheese all over melted on your Mexican food with seasoned meat… don’t go here! I knew I was going to be disappointed when I saw slaw on my Verdes! Even their queso was not hot and dripping like it should be, it was the consistency of velveeta when it starts to harden up! It was the worst meal of my life and my son’s life who love Mexican food. It’s so subpar that Taco Bell does better work and seasoning as well as sauces than this place! All they have going for them is atmosphere and friendly service! We can’t help but joke about our worst meal ever, that’s how bad it was!!

Staff and service was awesome. Food was absolutely horrendous. Carnitas unflavored. Enchiladas unflavored. Super disappointed. Find a new chef.

Always fantastic service and food is to die for. Amazing drinks too. Love the patio - best in Minneapolis when weather is nice. Try whatever Birria is on the menu!!

Jefe is one of our comfort spots: great food, delicious cocktails, and absolutely amazing staff. The vibes are top notch and never fail to get us to loosen our shoulders and just enjoy the experience.

Special events, celebrations, girls/guys night out, or an intimate meal - I'd recommend Jefe for any experience.

We came to Jefes for a birthday celebration with a party of 17. Our reservation was at 7, but the group before us (a wedding party) arrived an hour late and were still occupying our table well past our reservation time. By 7:40, we were starting to lose hope that the night would go smoothly.

That’s when the manager, MJ, stepped in — and completely turned the situation around. He quickly arranged a beautiful setup for us in a private hall, complete with our own speaker for music. Our server, Kehyan, was incredible. He went above and beyond to make sure the rocky start didn’t ruin our celebration.

MJ and Kehyan surprised us with complimentary tequila shots and margaritas for the entire table, comped the birthday girl’s meal, and even brought out dessert for her. What started as a frustrating evening turned into an unforgettable night thanks to their kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail.

At the beginning of the night, we were ready to never come back — but by the end, we were already planning our next visit. Huge thanks to MJ and Kehyan for making the birthday celebration magical!

The service at this restaurant was phenomenal. From hostess, to wait staff to the manager stopping by they nailed it! It’s harder to find service like that in these roaring twenties for some reason. Jefe should be very commended for their engaged staff AND their food and beverages are great too! We will be back!!!

The location and service were definitely 4-5 star. Our drinks were great and the restaurant itself has a great vibe and the only downside of the atmosphere was how dark it was in the restaurant itself (needed phone to read the menu). Now the bad....the food was overall horrible with muted flavors and poor quality and finishes. We had a jefe dip sampler, not sure how they unlocked the secret to Mango salsa tasting like smoked salmon but it was achieved (pureed like baby food). For our mains we had chicken bowl, quesabirria and enchiladas verdes..... have not much say about our mains other than on our way home we said if we wanted fresher Mexican food with better quality and flavor we would go to Qdoba or Chipotle.

Sat on the patio, and that offered a stellar experience with the waning sun, the breeze in the trees across the street, and the many passersby on a lovely evening. Our server was super friendly and attentive, making the experience just right. We got in just in time for happy house, so we got Jefe Margaritas (not too sweet, not bitter--just cozy and tasty!) and nachos with beef (fully loaded, absolutely delicious, and healthy portions of stellar guac). Since we were celebrating a birthday, we topped this off with a tres leches cake and that was an absolute standout. While we didn't sit inside, the atmosphere looked spectacular, with retro/cozy energy and high ceilings with a beautiful bar at the center. We will be back for more!

Great vibes and food and well everything. Wish there was a little bit bigger drink selection. But still a great place to be yourself

It definitely sets a mood, quite dark where we sat. Food was good, fairly standard selection. Had chips/queso and the Mahi Mahi tacos. I've had better, I've had worse.

Wow, the manager MJ went above and beyond what any server/manager has ever done for me. I had asked if they have an espresso martini and he answered “no but I can get you one” he proceeded to run and yes I mean run to the neighboring restaurant just to get me my espresso martini.. this is ABOVE and BEYOND and probably something I’ll never forget lol. Amazing service!
