I snagged a last minute reservation to Oro and was so excited to check it out as it has amazing reviews and reservations seem to be booked out for weeks typically.
Sadly, our dining experience left us quite disappointed and confused. The dishes we ordered lacked flavor and were very underwhelming. I was particularly drawn to Oro by a recent Instagram post featuring fish tacos that looked totally divine. However, the actual portion was significantly smaller than depicted and, for $35, extremely underwhelming and bland tasting.
We also ordered the Quesabirria which also lacked flavor and was nothing special. We were accidentally also given a mushroom appetizer (I think) that was not memorable and dry. Cocktails were OK and the atmosphere was cozy, but still didn't justify the price point.
Perhaps we simply ordered poorly, but given Oro's popularity and prices, my expectations were much higher. I'm more than happy to pay a premium for exceptional food and atmosphere, but this experience definitely fell short.

To be a restaurant that you can hardly get a reservation, Nixta tries to hard to make Mexican cuisine an overpriced experience. Drinks are great, friendly and attentive staff. Great environment.

A bit fancier than I was expecting. Would recommend getting a reservation, we were only able to be seated because someone failed to show up for their reservation, otherwise the whole place was booked for the night.
Good food and drinks. Smallish portions.

We made reservations over a month in advance and we're really looking forward to our dinner, but left disappointed.
The atmosphere was great and service excellent, but the flavor and texture left a lot to be desired.
A $14 margarita was totally unbalanced and closer to a tequila old fashioned.
Queso fundido was tasty, but impossible to serve.
Huarache was the highlight of our meal. Best application of the masa that we had. Good texture and flavor and well seasoned.
Had the carnitas, lengua and pescado tacos. Carnitas was the clear winner, but they were all underseasoned and under salted. For a place that is all about the masa, the tortillas were very underwhelming. Dry and crumbly.
Had the tres leches for dessert, and it was the worst tres leches I've ever had, hands down. Dry, chewy, and neither rich nor sweet.
I'd consider this place wildly overpriced and over hyped.

Lovely atmosphere, great service. Food, hmmm. Queso fundido was great. Mofungo with bacon jam was tasty. Quesabirria had good enough flavor, but still lacking finishing salt or something. Kind of bland. Carnitas taco had zero flavor, Pollo taco had zero flavor, market fish (white sea bass) was flavored only of fish. No other seasonings that stood out. Granted, all the meats are VERY tender, just missing flavor.
I'm honestly confused.

I had the pollo mole which was wonderful and had tortillas on the side. My partner had the birria tacos, which were good enough but nothing particularly special. The dessert is where this restaurant missed. We had the mole, which honestly looked unappealing. The taste and texture were also off.
The biggest issue we had was with the server. We asked questions about the desserts to narrow our search down and he didn't give us anything except "unique" for all of the options. The whole meal he was also just a bit off putting. That accompanied with getting seated in the middle of a loud room added up to a less than ideal experience. Would not go back.

I recently visited this highly-acclaimed restaurant and had a delightful experience. The food and drinks were exceptional. However, I hope to see this establishment become a welcoming space for communities of color in MN. Consider hosting events like happy hour or gatherings where people of color can feel at home. Currently, the presence of predominantly white patrons enjoying our cultural cuisine without showing respect towards us as individuals is discomforting. I hope to see a more inclusive atmosphere in the future.

I wanted to love this place so much, but the food was underwhelming. We waited 2 months for our reservation and love Mexican food. The queso was just okay, the chicken taco was cold, the pork had good flavor and the burria quesadilla was our favorite. Nothing was that memorable though. There’s way better Mexican food in the cities. I appreciate they make all their own corn tortillas. I just left wanting nothing to do with corn tortillas for a while, as it’s a part of every dish! We won’t be back, especially with the 18% surcharge that isn’t a tip. We literally paid half of our bill in just taxes, surcharges and tip alone.

Really wanted to love this place. But found a lot of the food bland, flavorless.
The lamb was un edible, as it was so salty and dry.
The guacamole didn’t have any seasoning. It was really bland.
Tacos were ok, but I can find better within the city for half the price

The food was amazing. Definitely recommend sitting at the bar and ordering your dinner there. Sope de Pulpo was extraordinary, but everything we had was great. 10/10
Vegetarian options: The brussel sprouts were bomb!

Hands down the fanciest Mexican I've had. Leveled up! Beautiful tortillas and thoughtful ingredients, amazing sauces, top notch service. Highly recommend!
Amazing fine dining experience with incredible flavors. To top it off, our server was knowledgeable and entertaining!

Visited on a Saturday night. It’s fine.
Nothing really blew our socks off enough to wait months for another reservation.
We had: guacamole, lengua tacos, lechon prensado, quesabirria and mole.
Our server was having an off night it seemed. Minimal interaction, no suggestions provided, no explanation/introduction of the place, no offers for drink refills.
However, the server who was working the section near us, in an apron, he seemed like a phenomenal server watching his interactions with his tables.

It was alright. Wayyyy too expensive for a bland dining experience/environment. Bar area is probably the way to go for a fun cozy vibe. Ordered the chicken mole plate...it was good but essentially a re/deconstructed foo-foo appetizer (tapas) plate with chicken and corn croquettes on a mole sauce. The birria tacos were better but we've had similar for half the price at taquerias in south Minneapolis or Richfield. Mezcal cocktails were solid. Note that there is an 18% "dine-in" hospitality charge. Service was excellent. Overall, was hoping for more. Value just isn't there.
