This is the best restaurant in town! I came to visit Oro restaurant from Chicago and was amazed by the delicious food. From the moment I walked in, the owner and staff were super welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. I adored all of the artwork and love how the restaurant has a purpose by supporting the community. The appetizers, dishes and dessert were top notch. I definitely will recommend Oro to family and friends and will return for some more tasty dishes to try!!

We finally made it to Oro by Nixta after hearing nonstop rave reviews, and wow, it lived up to every bit of the hype and more. From the moment we walked in, the warm, intimate vibe and stunning wall art set the tone for what became one of the best dining experiences we've had in Minnesota.

We kicked things off with drinks that were not only beautifully crafted but perfectly balanced. They were bold without being overpowering and the kind you instantly want another round of. Then came the chips, salsa, and guacamole, which might sound simple but were anything but. The flavors were fresh, layered, and full of personality. A flawless opening to the meal. The quesabirria followed and was pure magic, crispy on the outside, rich and melty inside, with a depth that lingered long after each bite. The lamb, fish, and shrimp dishes were just as unforgettable. Each protein was cooked to perfection and paired with unique accompaniments that made the flavors pop in totally different ways. It’s rare to find a place where every item on the table feels like a signature dish. But that’s exactly what Oro delivers.

The staff? Absolutely top-tier. Welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to guide you through the menu. We felt like we were dining with old friends who really cared about making the experience special.

Oro by Nixta isn't just a meal. It’s a love letter to modern Mexican food: elevated, soulful, and unforgettable. We’re already planning our next visit.

Everything my tastebuds touched induced a warm feeling of love, joy, and satisfaction. All the dishes we tried upon the first bite I felt my shoulders relax and my mouth excited about the flavors and textures. I’m usually a very picky eater but I went in thinking I was going to try anything I could and I am so incredibly happy I did. Service and staff were polite knowledgeable and attentive, we were treated like family. The atmosphere is so welcoming and the art on the walls are beautiful, deep and thoughtful. Everyone involved in the operation has put their heart into this place and you can tell. Can’t wait to bring everyone I know for this wonderful experience.

My wife and I have desperately been wanting to try this spot and finally made it happen. Unfortunately, all aspects of the restaurant did not live up to the hype.

We planned to grab drinks at one of the nearby restaurants/bars before our dinner reservation. Unfortunately, everywhere was slammed. So, we settled for a drink at the tequila/mezcal bar in Oro. The bar area is cramped but the bartenders were nice and despite other reviews saying the drinks were lackluster, they were surprisingly the highlight of the meal. The drinks weren’t outstanding for the price (Stargazer would have been a much better opening to the evening), but they were much better than the food and service that was to come.

Despite arriving over 30 minutes early, we were seated 15 minutes AFTER our reservation time. Once we were seated, everything moved at a snails pace. When the server finally came we ordered the guacamole and a few tacos which he said he was going to stage out. The time in between the guacamole plate being finished and the tacos being served was about another 20 minute gap with no check-in and no food on our table. Not to mention, the table next to us arrived later than us but was getting their food (many of the same items) before us. The shrimp taco was the standout with the lengua being okay. The carnitas was dry and flavorless. Then came time for the mains, which also came out painstakingly slow. The mahi was a brilliantly thought out pairing of flavors but the fish was very overcooked. The barbacoa was okay, but the protein again was tough and dry despite the sauce’s attempt to revitalize the dish.

The service was so slow and infrequent, we were never asked about the quality of our dishes or experience. Don’t get me wrong, the server was incredibly kind. However, for a place where you can easily spend $200 on a dinner for two, the service needs to be top notch especially considering the decor and ambiance isn’t on par with other restaurants in this price range.

We will not be returning. If we have a hankering for this style of cuisine again we will be returning to Colita. You can’t go wrong with a DDP restaurant.

I went to this place with no expectations and came out feeling so good !! Food is top notch..comes in small portions and is very flavorful. The staff members are very accommodating and give attention to details. This place is kind of a hole in the wall types, seems like a small place but a gem of its kind!! Never expected Mexican food to be elevated so well . Overall the experience was very unique.

We had been meaning to go here as we've heard great things. We took a friend for her birthday dinner and enjoyed many dishes together. Everything was quite delicious, flavorful, and delectable! The quesabirria appetizer was our favorite!

Get your reservations early as they are not open every day and the reservations fill up quickly!

Enjoy!

I snagged a last minute reservation to Oro and was so excited to check it out as it has amazing reviews and reservations seem to be booked out for weeks typically.

Sadly, our dining experience left us quite disappointed and confused. The dishes we ordered lacked flavor and were very underwhelming. I was particularly drawn to Oro by a recent Instagram post featuring fish tacos that looked totally divine. However, the actual portion was significantly smaller than depicted and, for $35, extremely underwhelming and bland tasting.

We also ordered the Quesabirria which also lacked flavor and was nothing special. We were accidentally also given a mushroom appetizer (I think) that was not memorable and dry. Cocktails were OK and the atmosphere was cozy, but still didn't justify the price point.

Perhaps we simply ordered poorly, but given Oro's popularity and prices, my expectations were much higher. I'm more than happy to pay a premium for exceptional food and atmosphere, but this experience definitely fell short.

To be a restaurant that you can hardly get a reservation, Nixta tries to hard to make Mexican cuisine an overpriced experience. Drinks are great, friendly and attentive staff. Great environment.

A bit fancier than I was expecting. Would recommend getting a reservation, we were only able to be seated because someone failed to show up for their reservation, otherwise the whole place was booked for the night.
Good food and drinks. Smallish portions.

We made reservations over a month in advance and we're really looking forward to our dinner, but left disappointed.

The atmosphere was great and service excellent, but the flavor and texture left a lot to be desired.

A $14 margarita was totally unbalanced and closer to a tequila old fashioned.

Queso fundido was tasty, but impossible to serve.

Huarache was the highlight of our meal. Best application of the masa that we had. Good texture and flavor and well seasoned.

Had the carnitas, lengua and pescado tacos. Carnitas was the clear winner, but they were all underseasoned and under salted. For a place that is all about the masa, the tortillas were very underwhelming. Dry and crumbly.

Had the tres leches for dessert, and it was the worst tres leches I've ever had, hands down. Dry, chewy, and neither rich nor sweet.

I'd consider this place wildly overpriced and over hyped.
