Be wary upcharging for almond milk:

Several large coffee chains (notably Starbucks and Dunkin’) have faced lawsuits in the U.S. for charging extra when customers substitute regular dairy milk (e.g. 2% milk) with almond, oat, soy, or other non-dairy alternatives.

The lawsuits generally make the argument that:

1. Lactose intolerance / milk allergies are disabilities (under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and in some cases state law).

2. Having to use non-dairy milk is not a preference for many people but a medical necessity. Charging extra discriminates against people who must use non-dairy options.

3. The excess charge (upcharge) is not justified by the actual cost difference of non-dairy vs regular milk in many cases. Plaintiffs argue the margin or profit from the surcharge is large.

This place is the “Cheers” of Lake Nokomis. The owners, Dennis and Mary, make you feel like family and remember everyone’s favorite drinks. The coffee, Nordic waffles, and Greek Chicken wrap, are personal favorites. Pastry choices include Kouign Ammans and chocolate croissants, also favorites. Every morning you’ll see the same group of retired guys, the baby play group, the old friends getting together, a few work meetings, and a couple of first dates. I love this place.

Great iced vanilla latte, nice employees, drinks always made super quick, close to the lake. What more could you want.

You’re missing out if you don’t get your coffee from Nokomis Beach Coffee. Plus their Nordic waffles are amazing. Great staff, great food, great coffee.

My husband and I love this coffee shop! Very cute and local with parking. We love both of their mochas (white chocolate (iced noko) and the regular mocha). The price to size ratio is also very good! About $6.50 for a large iced mocha and it is definitely a decent size (and delicious).

I love that this place is still here 25 years after I started owning a house in south Minneapolis. And, even though I don’t always live as close anymore, I like that this place is still there. It still has the same horribly heavy front door that I wish they’d fix, but the food is good, they have all of the classic coffee drinks, it is just so fun just to walk in and order very cinnamon-ee apple pie, and it’s saved me so many times with soup on a cold day, breakfast on a weekend, and a sandwich (made to order) when I just can’t cook or want to take an impromptu picnic to the lake. I just love it. Thank you for being there for me/us all these years!

Very cool local coffee shop! Privately owned.

Good pastries.

Of course great coffee!

The only thing nice about this place is the location and that’s about it.
Horrible interior that has no flow for entering and exiting. The food and drink is whatever.
Go up the street to Northern coffee works.
