The food was delicious - we had a couple of onigiris, pork udon, and pork donburi, and I’m looking forward to trying the other items. It’s a cute little neighborhood spot, and staff were polite. Be aware that it is counter service. They bring your food to the table, but get your own utensils and bus your dishes, which I don’t think justifies the suggested gratuity you’re presented with.
I lived in Japan over a decade ago and have not found a restaurant in MN where smells and tastes brought forward so much nostalgia The onigiri, curry udon, and Tayaki were all exquisite. This is a new favorite for us and are looking forward to being back soon!
My only complaint about this restaurant is that it's not closer to me. Though maybe that's a good thing since I'd eat here way too often
I had the onigiri combo, with ebi mayo, tuna mayo, and yuzu salmon. All of them were lovely, clean flavors, warm and the perfect size to fill my stomach without overdoing it. The miso soup and the seaweed salad were exactly what I was hoping for, and my taiyaki was lovely and crisp, the sweet red bean a wonderful bookend for the meal.

Just went for the second time and never again. The restaurant was empty and a freezing 60 degrees inside. Food was incredibly bland. They have the audacity to ask minimum 18% tip upon ordering, while having you get your own water and utensils, and expect you to buss your own table. Customer service is non-existent - we were not welcomed upon entering, checked upon while eating, nor given any sort of “thank you/goodbye” upon leaving. It’s hard to want to patron a business like this.

Tasty Taiyaki, but could’ve been warmer.
After reading many old reviews 4 stars was too generous since they clearly have not changed what we witnessed tonight that others previously have reported was their similar experience. 3.5 at best. Tori don bowl was pretty good. The problem was my bowl was brought out 20 minutes before my wife who ordered the same thing so that made things awkward. We tried to call ahead to take out but their phone didn't work. Might have just been a off night, but this didn't leave me with a great impression. Atmosphere is nothing to write home about either, makes it feel a little like fast food, except for my wife's meal taking 25 minutes to come out definitely wasn't fast.
The tori bowl was pretty good, mine was not hot, my wife's was much hotter. Chicken was good and tender with mild teriyaki sauce mixed in with ginger and rice. Tasted like chicken wok, which i like. We will possibly return but will change to 2 stars if the service is the same as this time or the phone doesn't work again. $47 for 2 dishes and 2 miso soups. This isn't a restaurant, and you order your own food, get your own water, and bus your own table. That's too expensive for all that.

Funky noodle/rice bowl spot. Authentic Japanese style. Beer and drinks by the can.

Good food. Good vibes. The vanilla milkcream “waffle” threw me off, probably wouldn’t order that again. Otherwise, everything else was great!

Food was fantastic! The only issue i had was when my friend and I ordered separately they gave us the same number and wouldn't bring the food out at the same time so we would get our food very staggered. But the onigiri was very good! The eclair and strawberry cake were also very, very good.

Food is alright, but they are understaffed and so busy and they don't even bring utensils..there are other Japanese restaurants I won't be coming back
Unhappily the price was expensive, the atmosphere was crowded and noisy, the service was meh, the portions were small and we waited for our food for an hour with no real explanation. Nope even though I love a neighborhood restaurant and Japanese food.

I was very disappointed by this restaurant. I had been really excited to come here as I’ve heard great things, but none of my standards were met.
First of all, I was shocked at the style of restaurant this is. For the expensive prices, I was expecting a real restaurant experience with a waiter and such. Instead, you get your own menu, go up to the counter to order, then your food is brought to you without utensils or water, and you are expected to bust your own dishes. I wouldn’t necessarily have a problem with this if it wasn’t a decently expensive place. This was no fault of the workers, they were plenty polite, it’s just that it is not in their job descriptions to be waiters.
On top of that, the food completely missed the mark. I got miso soup as well as the tuna mayo onigiri and shake onigiri. The miso soup was probably the worst I’ve ever had- there was so little miso, I genuinely thought I was sipping water. the tofu was undercooked and completely flavorless, and an entire block of it that wasnt cut up at all. It was also 3.50, but soberfish thats 10 minutes away is 3.00 for twice the flavor.
the onigiri is what I’ve heard the most about, and i was so confused on what I was supposed to be excited for. it managed to once again be virtually flavorless- the rice had nothing, the fish was bland, it was like having texture in my mouth with nothing else. I am at a loss for what this restaurant is known for.
Overall, terrible experience for the prices of the food. its all self serve, the food isbland and expensive, and the prices are insane.
