Food was not good, especially for the price. Broccoli appetizer tasted like frozen broccoli heated up, and it cost $10. Focaccia did not seem fresh at all, and it cost $11. We got the mortadella pizza. The crust was bizarre, way too thick, soggy, and likely premade. The sauce was so thin that it was runny and made the pizza wet. The pizza itself was barely warm, and we were one of only four tables in the restaurant. The atmosphere and the service was good, but it in no way made up for the quality and price of the food itself. Hope our experience was isolated, but we won’t be going back.

So we have been to Pinoli a number of times and especially enjoy their rooftop dining. It is on our list of places we regularly go to for happy hour, which often transitions into a full meal.

Our most recent visit unfortunately was cut short by the bad attitude and general demeanor of the hostess who when asked a simple question chose to treat the person in our party who asked it quite rudely. This is sort of the front line of a dining experience, and can set the mood for an evening. We ended up leaving before ordering and going elsewhere. I am sure we will return sometime, but I hope there is a conversation with staff about their treatment of customers.

Wednesday cheap date night is such a fantastic deal! Alyssa was a fantastic server and really made the experience great. We did the four course meal and enjoyed the bruschetta, the linguini, the chicken parm, and the cannolis with a bottle of wine. Everything was absolutely delicious and we are already planning to visit again!

Our food was good and unique. We had the lamb meatballs and the ravioli. The tiramisu was fantastic! My only complaint is that they will not honor the Wednesday “Date Night” special on the rooftop patio, even though they offer the full menu up there. This detail is not mentioned on their website. This was our first experience at Pinoli, and we planned our evening knowing the weather would be perfect for patio dining and thought the Date Night option would be a fun way to try many of the menu choices….but it didn’t work out that way.

Friendly staff, great atmosphere.
Everyones food looked good.
I would come back!

If you're a fan of calamari, do not order from here (cheap frozen rings that were rubbery).
If you're a fan of actual foccacia, do not order the foccacia plate (boxed dough? No flavor, seemed like a cheap from the box dough, if they even make it in-house. Same dough used for the pizza. Works well for the pizza, just doesn't hold up on its own.)
If you like broccoli, dont order the broccoli appetizer (frozen broccoli? Or over blanched? This was a real disappointment).
Thats what I get for trying something out of their wheelhouse of pasta and pizza. That's on me! ???

Food was not the best, for the price I was hoping for a bit more. We ordered the whitefish and the chicken parmesan. Parmesan was good but did not have noodles included (for $24 might I add). The fish was not worth ordering again. Overall, there are plenty of other restaurants that offer better value/quality and located in a better part of town. Our server was very nice and was the bright spot of our experience.

Kim Bartmann (KB), a well-regarded restaurateur known for her entrepreneurial spirit, deserves recognition for her achievements in the industry. She owns several establishments, including Pinoli, where we recently held a pre-arranged retirement celebration for over 30 guests. However, it appears that KB's busy schedule may be a barrier to effective customer service, as she seems largely unreachable when issues arise. It seems that her second-in-command, Mary Beth (MB), may be either intentionally isolating KB from customer feedback or acting on KB's own instructions. While every business has areas for improvement, MB’s approach suggests a reluctance to embrace constructive feedback. Success in the restaurant industry depends not only on high-quality ingredients but also on consistently excellent customer service. Unfortunately, MB’s behavior—rude and condescending—falls short of these standards. MB behaved as a very “white” individual with little respect for us as a customer. It is crucial for KB to be aware of the issues with MB so she can decide if she wants to address our negative experiences. There have been controversies surrounding KB, including discussions about her James Beard Award and back pay issues, which may be resolved by now. Nonetheless, it’s important for busy individuals like KB to remain informed about customer experiences.

Beautiful rooftop but food could be improved.

Food was good but the server messed up the order and was not apologetic, seemed annoyed at us despite us being very clear and simple with our order. The DJ was also playing songs at different volumes, some being pleasant while others being way too loud. It wasn’t very busy and food still took ages to make and the incorrect order made it take longer.

Sadly, everything was disappointing. For me, Italian is pretty hard to not do right and our pasta was wildly overcooked, which we shared with the server, who could have cared less about anything. She seemed to want everyone to disappear and hate her job, so that was fun. Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing “good” about our experience to encourage us to return.

Beautiful deck, horrible dining experience. One server for the whole rooftop and they were out of many items on the menu - including, we found out 30 minutes after sitting down, the pizza we had ordered eons ago. Server seemed as though she could care less and a manager was nowhere to be found, even though I waited for five minutes at the hostess stand downstairs. They were also out of the red wine we wanted, so instead we got a $13 glass of very warm wine, served in the deteriorating plastic glasses that everything upstairs came in, and ended up at Punch for our pizza. I wanted so much to like this place and it's beautiful rooftop but so many things were wrong in a single outing that I won't be back. Also, although it's not mentioned anywhere on the website, date night is only downstairs, if there is still food available.
