We were walking on the street to grab a small plate, and this restaurant was calling us in. Window seating, white modern decorations with a nice menu made us walk into the restaurant. We sat immediately, and people were friendly. I got duck tataki and a skin skewer. My partner got thigh and breast skewers. Because we ordered individually his skewers and mine came in different plates. Which was perfect because I didn't wanna share my seasoning or dipping sauce lol Every dish was prepared & cooked perfectly. So yummy. I wouldn't mind having the skin a little bit more crispy. However, I enjoyed what I got anyway. My eyes are still on squid ink pappardelle. I hope they will keep it on their menu until I come back to Minneapolis :) I also loved how they brought the check lol it's super cute

Service was really kind and the people were really kind + personable. Food was delicious!! We got the citrus salad which was bursting with flavor but not overly tart. For the main dish we got the Calabrian which was perfectly spicy yet sweet from the lemon and fresh and the mentally lumache which was such a fun, nutty twist to a pesto. Would order everything again and will definitely be going back to try more.P.S music was also 10/10

I love the aesthetic and the vibes this place brings. The food menu is small but exciting. The Italian-Japanese fusion works. The pizza is divine and the pasta is fresh. Got the Dungeness crab pasta, it was good, but definitely would have loved some chili crisp or heat to it. The Isaac Becker pizza works so well, I didn’t want to stop eating it. Who doesn’t love spicy tuna? I’ll be going back to try more. Service was great. Parking can be difficult as it’s street, but valet was only $10.

On paper the idea of an Italian-japanese fusion restaurant is surprisingly to say the least. Given that, I had no real expectations of what to expect.Let me say, the food was great !It is more like two menus, one Italian with pizza and one Japanese with yakitori and small plates, both done very well in the same kitchen. The number of items fusing both cuisine is small. The yakitori were delicious. The pizza was very well made.We had a great time and the service was very attentive.

AMAZING! If you think the pictures look good then expect to be totally satisfied. The star of the show was the curry mayo had with the sweet potato korokke, but everything had was spot on: highball, yakitori, korokke, mentaiko lumache, squid ink pappardelle, and budino. The pizzas looked good but not so good to actually consider....so just get the pasta!

The food was amazing. My boyfriend and I had a really good time eating every plate. The pizza but mostly the pasta and crudo. 4⭐️ because the music was really bad haha, nice restaurant but the playlist choice wasn’t what you expect. Btw didn’t take photos of the food.

One of my favorite restaurants in Minneapolis…maybe ever. I love when someone in my life hasn’t been yet so I can take them to experience it for the first time.

Excellent staff. Some food was better than others. Good were the shishitos, arancini, and becker pizza. Of poor value were the crudo, tataki, and yakitori in general. I also think using the elevator to deliver the food for serving increases the likelihood that the food is not as hot or fresh to the 4th floor tables. If you go, book a table on the main floor or sit at the bar.

I am Italian (born and raised) and when I read Italian Japanese fusion, I was skeptical. Instead I found out they have the best pizza in Minneapolis. I really liked it. The only thing I would have changed is the level of the music. It was a bit too loud.Dietary restrictions: There are many options for gluten and dairy free food.

Honestly had a great time here. Staff was helpful and patient, atmosphere was chill bordering on too minimalist, and it was a little chilly. The food was spot on for every dish. My wife and I were really happy. Will be back!Dietary restrictions: Chef was more than willing to help work around a soy allergy.

At Sanjusan, Italian and Japanese cuisine meld in a mouthwatering display of culinary prowess that takes the form of dishes such as hiramasa crudo, squid ink pappardelle, and okonomiyaki pizza. Accompanying the generous selection of pasta, pizza, and small plates are an exquisite array of cocktails and yakitori, grilled skewer dishes; I highly recommend the yakitori chicken thigh, which was eye-wideningly flavorful for what I expected to be relatively simple dish. The arancini elicited the same reaction.Everything was served by exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and professional staff who made us feel cared for without being overbearing. The atmosphere is elegant yet energetic, upscale yet approachable. It is a standout place to bring loved ones for a special occasion. And I haven’t even mentioned the exceptional bar that sits adjacent, Kado no Mise.If I had to critique, and this might just be me, it’s that I left wishing the portion sizes were a bit larger. Sharing family style between three friends left me at 70% full rather than my preferred 80—but to be fair, I have a big, Americanized appetite. I would also add that a bit more space between tables or an offset arrangement would be appreciated, so as to create a bit more privacy. All said, shoutout to the team at Sanjusan for making our dinner special, creating a memorable experience, playing great music, and dishing wonderful food. Hope to be back soon.
