Sidewalk Kitchen is a name that does not seem obvious to have Chinese cuisine. I think they are a solid takeout and eat in when I am crabing some Chinese food. A friend of mine from China recommended this spot. She said that it had options closer to what she would order in China, so it was more authentic to her. One day, I ordered some garlic coated string beans with white rice, an order of fried chicken wings, and #76. Szechuan Spicy Diced Chicken with fried rice. The service was decent and attenive, the food was flavorful, and the portions allowed us to have seconds. For two, the bill was also reasonable. When we asked for some soy sauce and hot oil, the flavor of the food definitely was enhanced. The food tasted fresh and appeared to be fresh off the press, so that makes me happy to know that things move quickly through this place and they have a steady flow of patrons in the University of Minnesota area.

This is the best Chinese restaurant I have been ever eaten in Minneapolis! We ordered sesame chicken and beef broccoli for our lunch special! The foods are so good. The service staff is very kind, with detailed and patient introduction, I will come again!

Service was mediocre. Couldn't give recommendations when asked about dishes and was not very attentive to us as they were on their phones. Food was also mediocre but coming from Hawaii where Asian food is abundant I am also somewhat of a harsh critic I will admit. My son got the sesame chicken and typically this dish for us would be described as sweet and tangy, but this dish from Sidewalk Kitchen was almost bitter and had no depth in its flavor. My son took one bite and said he couldn't eat it. I tried it and I have to say I agree. It was not appetizing. The eggplant dish I ordered was okay, not anything special. We were just passing through town and stopped to eat, wouldn't come back if we had another opportunity.

We came back second times in a week at Sidewalk Kitchen , which is the best authentic Chinese Cantonese foods that is tasty in the twin cities! Service was promoted and attentive! Enjoyed all of the entrees we tried. The eggplant with garlic sauce has good balance vinegar and a bit spicy that was my favorite dish! We also like the Shanghai style fry noodles that soft noodles with meats and mushroom was good too! How suprised that we can try Hong Kong Style lemon ice tea that exactly taste as same as we been traveling in Asia.Prices are fair for the quality and portions! We will definitely come back and try somerhing new!Dietary restrictions: Authentic Chinese foodsKid-friendliness: Good Service

This Cantonese restaurant is not to be missed. We stumbled upon it when over by the U of M and couldn’t have been more impressed with the delicious food. We’ve been here several times now and our must-order is the salt and pepper beef short ribs hot pot,(picture included). The beef is so tender and perfectly seasoned, coming with onions, peppers, and a side of rice of course. Other dishes have been very enjoyable too. The staff is kind, quick to attend to you when you arrive, and clearly the cooks are experts in their field. What’s nice about here too is that it has a good dining atmosphere with a lot of eat-in patrons, not just operating primarily as a takeout joint like many Asian restaurants do. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had a party for 26 people the end of January. I ordered 5 dishes times 5, including fried rice and stir fried noodles. Plus, I prepared two proteins on my own. On the bbq pork, I ordered by the pound. I was shocked and my heart sank when the food was delivered! I immediately knew it was not enough....and it wasn't. Since we had eaten there the week before, I knew the portion sizes. Instead of 5 orders, I estimate we received 3 of each. Maybe 4 of the rice. When I texted the owner the next day, he wasn't even apologetic. The food and portions at SWK are good when you eat in. I will never again cater from them, and I've told friends the same!

We went for the congee varieties and they were rich and smooth with well prepared ingredients. The very large bowls were more than we could finish for lunch. They are highly recommended.

I've only tried their pouched beef for takeout, but the portion is huge. For me, it's enough for four meals! The dish tasted amazing and I find myself always ordering it. It's worth the price for me. You should definitely check out this place.

Perfect Christmas dinner. Very impressed. Highly recommend Golden Tofu Spare Rib. Even better than most Chinese restaurants I found in Chicago!
