I actually really enjoyed this cupcake shop. In comparison to other cupcake shops around they have similar flavors but I feel like they were more affordable for a large batch of cupcakes. I have to admit that I've only tried the one cupcake which was the chocolate peanut butter. This cupcake was so moist and delicious I wish I had ordered more. It was definitely the head of the party and I'm glad that I stopped in randomly to pick some up. They also had a little golden snitch cake pops which were equally delicious. They do tend to have an hours, there are several times that I have stopped in and they have actually closed. Make sure you check the hours before coming so you won't be disappointed. Again, I would definitely check this place out if you're in the area or close by. Try the chocolate peanut butter cupcake!

Disappointed. I was so impressed with Sweet Retreat in 2017 and 2018 and since then, expensive ($300-$800) custom cake after cake, I've been disappointed. Cake itself tastes a little worse and has a drier texture than grocery store cake (we have had chocolate and confetti) and we've always accepted the taste trade off in hopes of having a cake that visually blows away our expectations. After this year's $600+ disappointment, we will be ordering our custom cakes from Queen of Cakes (their cakes look okay, but taste great). I'm not joking, the last Sweet Retreat cake is still sitting in our fridge a week after the event because it tastes so bad and no one wants to eat it. Only reason Sweet Retreat is at 3 stars instead of 2 is they have decent cupcakes for purchase in store. So, we will still stop in once a year for Harry Potter day.

Sweet Retreat was the perfect choice for our wedding cake! They gave us numerous cupcakes and slices of cake for our tasting (we chose salted caramel and snickerdoodle, though all the flavors were delicious). They also perfectly translated our vision for the cake decorations to the cake the day of our wedding!

Sweet Retreat Cupcake Boutique has gourmet cupcakes, cakes and mini bunts. The cupcakes are nothing spectacular. It appears to be all about the frosting. The frosting is sweet, flavorful and delicious. I'm more of a cupcake person than a frosting person so 4 stars. The frosting people loved them. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Enjoy your treat!

I wish I could give them a better review, because the cupcakes were delicious. However, the decorations were not what I asked for, and while I was (offhandedly) promised a refund for the decoration when I called (they also casually told me that there was "no way they could fix that with their current staffing") I still have not gotten said refund one week later. I ordered individually boxed cupcakes to give away at a drive-by baby shower for twin girls (very exciting). We ordered a design that they showed us from their own catalog (super cute owls) and I specifically said I wanted them in pink and lavender and I especially wanted the little candy flower on the tops of their heads because it was very cute and feminine. What I got was no candy flowers at all, half pink owls and half very, very blue owls. As if the twins were a boy and a girl. But alas, they are not, they are both girls. Sigh. I picked up the cupcakes at 1pm, and like an idiot I didn't check them in the store, but I called as soon as I got home and saw the mistake. The store told me that they remembered me specifically asking for half lavender and NOT blue, but that someone had written it down incorrectly. They also were pretty casual about the fact that there was "no way they could fix that". Which was maybe true, I have no idea how long it takes to make owl decorations. And they said they would refund the decorating costs. Fine. Except this was last weekend, and that has still not happened. Anyhoo, long story short: Ordered cupcakes for a once in a lifetime event, decorations were wrong, no refund. Cupcakes were delicious, though. The Mom to be was disappointed but chill about it, so what can you do?

We are first time customers and will be coming back as repeat customers and will be referring friends and family here as well. Our daughter was having a birthday party and we ordered cupcakes from Sweet Retreat. When my wife went to pick up our order, it had been mistakenly given to another customer with a similar order. The owner (Stephanie) took matters in to her own hands and went and picked up our cupcakes from the other customers house and delivered them to our house. They had also gotten the order slightly wrong, so Stephanie felt so bad and as the owner knew what to do to make her customers happy. She went so above and beyond to make us (and more importantly our daughter) happy that I will never go to any other cupcake shop in the twin cities. Thank you again Stephanie and the rest of the staff at Sweet Retreat for making our daughters birthday a happy one!

For my January birthday, my BFF The Other Deb™ had a dozen assorted cupcakes delivered to my house via Uber Eats! She Kevin and Elisa my kids would all be stopping by for socially distant birthday hellos, so I had cupcakes to hand out! This was so thoughtful and sweet. The cupcakes themselves really wowed me, the Stanton to detail (the peanut butter chocolate cupcake i adorned with a teeny peanut butter cup, the espresso chocolate with a coffee bean) but the one that grabbed my eye was the one that looked just like a Hostess cupcake! The glossy top and white icing loops were too nostalgic to pass up. Biting in, the cake was rich and chocolate that tasted like Valrhona chocolate it was decadent. The dark chocolate ganache on top melded beautifully with the light, rich creamy center. It was the perfect cupcake. I shortly thereafter devoured another chocolate one, topped with a swirl of chocolate buttercream that melted in my mouth. What a delicious find.
