Great people, great food
One of the best prefix menus in Mpls. Interesting, yummy, and not pretentious
For years, I considered Tenant one of the most compelling dining experiences in Minneapolis. The tasting menu format, the thoughtful pacing, and the clean, intimate atmosphere made it easy to recommend. When it’s good, it’s truly excellent. The food is balanced, creative, and technically impressive. One of the best pre fixe menus in the cities.
But the reality behind the scenes has made it impossible for me to continue sending people here in good faith.
There have been repeated instances of the chef-owner behaving aggressively toward guests during service, including yelling and confrontational behavior. More troubling is that these outbursts appear to be tied to substance use. When the chef is sober and present, the experience can still live up to its former promise. But when he’s not, the environment becomes unpredictable and uncomfortable, and no amount of culinary talent can make up for that. I have hesitated to post this review at all, but since several more stories of similar outbursts have been shared over the last few months with me, I feel compelled to say something.
I say this not out of spite, but out of concern for the guests, for the staff, and for the chef himself. I sincerely hope he is getting the help he needs and finds a path forward. Tenant is a restaurant with heart, vision, and potential. But until that potential is paired with consistency, professionalism, and a safe environment for everyone involved, I can’t recommend it.
Delicious 6-course meal!
My husband and I always have an amazing experience at Tenant. The staff are just as memorable as the cuisine and we have never experienced anything other than a 5 star evening.
Amazing spot for an elevated dinner or pop in brat and cocktail
Absolutely amazing experience! Food was unreal
We had a fantastic experience at Tenant! The six course meal was delightful - days later I’m still remembering the green sauce that had the perfect balance of vinegar and herb. We had the best halibut here - the only problem was wanting more. It was such a fun experience, the perfect mix of elegant and rustic with flavors that surprised and delighted. One suggestion: Would love to know more about the wine pairings and why the wines were chosen to pair with each course.
Absolutely phenomenal meal. The best experience and best deal of any tasting menu I’ve had in the cities.
What a gem! Each one of the courses was creative and delicious! Also, we felt the portions were appropriate for a multi course meal as we left satiated but not too full. We were there on a Thursday evening for the 6 pm service, and parking on the surrounding residential streets was easy to find. The place was full, yet not too noisy thanks to its hole in the wall size. The staff was personnable, yet professional and efficient as they had everyone out at 7:30, so they s. We definitely recommend this gourmet experience for a very special evening out.

Worth it every time. Only decision is what to drink, then just sit back and be wowed by 6 fantastic courses
I never realized how much time we spend looking at menus, debating what to order, and waiting for food--until we spent an evening at Tenant. With no menu to mull over, we were free to simply enjoy the experience. The six-course meal was abundant in flavor, each dish meticulously crafted like a piece of art. The energy and creativity poured into every course were nothing short of mind-blowing. Tenant delivers a high-class yet low-key dining experience--cozy, warm, and effortlessly refined. A must-visit for any food lover.
Killed it!!!!
We had an amazing time. Service was top notch, food was delicious and ambiance was welcoming and cozy. Everyone treated you like friend/family. Definitely recommend.
This is the absolute best dinner spot in the Twin Cities. The rotating menu always highlights delicious ingredients, the staff is always like seeing old friends, and the small dining room and music on vinyl makes for a wonderfully romantic evening.
