Chips are super greasy. Server was rude to me when I made a comment.
Love the Anchor. Their Shepherds Pie is great!
I thought I'd get a bite to eat while I waited for my bike to be fixed and, as a result, stumbled upon Anchor Fish & Chips. I had the fish sandwich and I can't say enough good things about it. On the one hand, it was a piece of fried fish on a bun with some tarter sauce and lettuce tomato and onion on the side. What made it spectacular was the quality of all the items. The piece of fish was large and thick, and incredibly fresh. The batter was crisp but thin and complimented rather than competed with the fish. The tarter sauce was also complemented rather than competed and everything was fresh fresh fresh. As noted above, I came across this place quite accidentally, but I will be going back for sure! The atmosphere is very pleasant. It has a relaxed but warm feeling. Service was also incredibly friendly.
I am done with Anchor now that they use beef tallow to fry their fish and chips. I used to really enjoy stopping by when I was in the area.
Amazing, welcoming people with top-notch food. We have been going since opening day and have never been disappointed. Try the fish. đ
My continued search for the worldâs best Shepherds Pie took me to The Anchor Fish & Chips in Minneapolis. This was a very nice dish that definitely ranks at the top of my list⊠Iâm moving it to #2 as it will take a lot to beat the pie I had at The Druid in Cambridge, Mass. The Anchorâs base sauce had a unique semblance of French onion soup that was very good. This version was more âsoupyâ than some recipes, which Iâve now discovered I really enjoy! In this regard. The Druidâs was similarly saucy. I would strongly recommend the Shepherds Pie at the Anchor if youâre looking for something besides the fish &chips!
Wow, there are no words, Amazing, Stellar, Fabulous, Awesome...none do it justice! AMAZEBALLS IT IS! Visited The Anchor while on my first visit to Minneapolis at the advice of a colleague, and I am SO THANKFUL. You know you've found a gem when you arrive in a residential area, to a hole-in-the-wall eatery, probably 25 seats tops, and there is a LINE! This is MY KINDA VIBE! (Though I did feel a bit embarrassed documenting.) hehe, but that just added to the appeal IMO. Had the fish and chips and WOW. How they manage to create fish and chips better than anywhere else is wild IMO. (I live in Seattle, and this place beats the PNW OR LONDON) Absolutely stellar, start to finish! *PRO TIP* GET THE PEAS
To our mind, there are no better fish and chips in the Twin Cities. I'm not even a fish fan. We live close enough to order take out and it is one of those places we order from regularly. If fish and chips aren't your thing (go on, try these!), they do have other excellent options on the menu -- burgers (including a veggie option) or Irish staples like shepherd's pie and pasties, toasties, battered bangers and, yes, mushy peas. The venue is small and can be quite busy. Reserve a table if your party is larger than 2.
They stopped having malt vinegar

I really can't speak highly enough of this place. The food is always wonderful, the space is quaint and cozy, and when nothing but Fish and Chips will do, there is nowhere better. Yes, there are issues with the space that only add to its charm, but the food and service are always outstanding, I go back often, and I make a reservation every father's day weekend(also my birthday weekend) because it's that damn fantastic.
