I really don't understand the hype for this coffee shop. It smells bad and the coffee isn't good. It seems like things just aren't cleaned properly, which contributes to the musty smell and off-tasting drinks. I think locals just really want to like the neighborhood coffee joint and ignore the glaring flaws of this place.

Great locally owned coffee shop with a neighborhood vibe. Love that they have local artists displaying their works.

This is a hidden gem! I went into Rewind next door and was craving my afternoon chai afterwards. I'm still on a Starbucks boycott so I've been trying to go to local coffee shops and I saw The Coffee Shop next door! I ordered the Killer Chai (which is amazing) and the chocolate chip banana bread (also incredible!). The staff was super friendly and I felt very welcomed and safe, I will definitely be back!

The baristas are all so wonderful here, and each speciality coffee I have had here has been so good. I would highly recommend trying them out!

Smelled like an old compost bin. Only gave me a table spoon of cream cheese for my not great bagel. Partners bagel sandwich was cold. The room/tables are good tho. And the cinnamon roll was warm and good.

Super friendly staff and a nice overall atmosphere. Lots of tables to spread out and work. A whole back area as well, which features more space and a stage. There was an open mic the night I went, which was great! But also, if you wanted to work and not hear the performers, the whole front area was apart, and had a door that shut for quiet during working.

I’ve only been here once so far but I’d love to come back. I stopped in on my way to work and the folks working were SO friendly. The atmosphere was very chill even with a morning rush. I can see myself coming here to get work done, journal, read, for a date. There’s a really open front area with some small tables and chairs along the walls, then another area in the back with additional seating.

First time visit, lovely place! Large menu of drinks but also lunch and breakfast type foods. To-go packaged fresh foods as well as options from the kitchen. Packaged foods include cake and baked goods options as well as salads and veggies, parfaits and a few other items. Ample seating but it was packed when we arrived. There was a single 2-seat table perfect for us in the room with the counter, and there were 2 other similar tables. Other tables are in the back of various sizes along with a few booths.Clearly a community-oriented local shop. Lots of other cute local shops in the area as well. Local art for sale on the walls as well as some community information. The coffee is good, though unremarkable. We both got drip though I also had a Florentine which is drip mixed with hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is made with milk and in addition to cow’s milk they have oat, soy, and almond milk options. The Florentine was delicious but how could it not be. ;) It’s a good option to get chocolate flavor but without the extra sweetness or espresso of a mocha. Drip coffee options were 3 different caffeinated and 1 decaf.Nothing is advertised as gluten free but the breakfast and salad menus show options which should be gluten-free but I’m not sure if cross contamination is expected. We didn’t eat so I can’t comment. Plenty of vegetarian options but not much for vegan at quick glance.Parking: There were spots in the Johnson St Market’s lot (for all shops on Johnson), but we drive past and found street parking within 1 block of NE Coffee.

The workers are very friendly and helpful. The menu is nice and easy to navigate. The drinks are very good, I did not get anything to eat. But my iced chai latte was great!Dietary restrictions: They offer different types of lactose free milk.
