I worked there in the early 90s as a desk clerk. It was a wonderful inn.
Second time we’ve come here, And didn’t joyed it each time. The building is clearly very old, but The rooms nicely nicely taken care of, and that’s the charm isn’t it?
We stopped for beverages and a quick bite to eat on a beautiful Fall day (10-10-2020). The outside deck was great at sunset. Friendly staff! We enjoyed our visit!
Everyone treated us like valued guests! very quiet in our rooms. Loved the Smoqe House and the Norwegian store. Will definitely come back! Loved the location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go!
We came for a girls weekend and this was our first stop. Charming historic hotel that we loved. The beds were super comfy, and the room even had a day bed so we all got our own bed!
Super cute! Staff was very friendly and the location is right in the middle of everything. Definitely recommend!
I had accidently reserved the wrong date. Ashley, the manager, checked me in and actually upgraded our room. Friendly and appreciated the business. The place is old and not in great condition. Rooms are spacious but Spartan. Bathroom remodel was nicely done. Elevator floor was quite dirty and was not vacuumed in a 20 hour period.
Northfield is a quaint town with nice shops and restaurants. We enjoyed a meal and drinks on the patio of the Contented Cow pub next door with great Bluegrass music. Temperature was lovely in the 70s.
We picked the place because we like the name but we had a wonderful stay, fun things to do. I's a shame the farmer's market wasn't held due to Covid concerns but we had great fun. My wife and I plan to return in the future. Dave Archer
Only complaint was the pillows were a little flat but they had plenty. Great view of the river and could walk right out of the building to go shopping, to dinner, etc. Was in a large room with whirlpool...was very nice! Especially for the rate that I paid. Daytime Staff were excellent!!!

It was completed in 1877. If you want to stay in a historical hotel this might be it. It’s downtown and you can walk to coffee shops and quaint stores.
Stayed here for a wedding. Loved it! Nice to stay somewhere other than a run of the mill. Great mix of keeping the history yet having modern amenities. I wish I had the opportunity to utilize the deep soaking tub. Howeve, the water pressure was amazing in the shower. Check in and check out staff was super nice. Would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.
We have stayed at the Archer house at least once a year for the last 6-7. Always a great experience and very conveniently located for walking the old downtown.
We drove 3 hours on horrific roads to stay at our favorite place in Northfield. They failed to tell us the restaurant and bar is not open. The lady at the front seat was very nice but our new years is ruined. Thanks. P.S. I am a small business owner and it is rare for us to be able to get away Hate this small room it is the worst I have seen here
When i was a boy my aunt would visit from Ohio and always stay at the Country inn but I grew up to be more intentional and not take the obvious path; after I moved to Missouri and became the one visiting whenever needing a hotel my instinct was to check out the archer house which as a boy we only knew as as being the fancy building above the Restaurant... I had never even been in the lobby. The many times we’ve stayed there since have been great! The best thing is the ecosystem of other experiences you are automatically plugged into by being downtown instead of between Taco Bell and a highway: shops, a library, river views, a tavern and more and the atmosphere inside is elegant and the rooms are cozy!
