I don’t know how they have such high reviews for food that is below average to average. I was super disappointed when I ordered one of my favorite soups, Crab meat fish maw. There were no descriptions for the soup so I assumed there would be real crab meat in it. Instead, they chopped up tiny pieces of imitation crab in the soup. Also, the fish maw Was chopped up, oddly in tiny squares, and not even tender. It was a little more harder and chewy. Maybe I should start from the beginning? When I arrived, there weren’t many people in the restaurant. I stood around for a few minutes waiting for a table. When I finally was seated I was asked immediately for a beverage. I thought that was great very prompt service. I asked for hot tea, later come to find out when other people asked for hot tea. The other server asked what type of tea would you like?? However, for me, she didn’t and just gave me some random tea. I addressed it with her after I was almost done with my meal. She at least apologized, but that still wasn’t OK. Especially when they charge you for it. I decided to order a lunch special and got the pepper steak which came with one crab Rangoon, and it said there would be two wings, but I only received one. The wing itself was huge anyways. I chose fried rice with it and I expected at least of fried rice to be good, but it was cold and hard. I know that fried rice is generally day old rice that you cook, but this didn’t even have a fried taste like from a walk. It was as if they soaked it in soy sauce and heated it up that way, but it wasn’t heated. The pepper steak was standard, I took the rest with me, but left the rice and the appetizers. It’s a cute space and well designed. It’s clean and service is fast, but I felt rushed. The lunch menu is a good deal, but I wouldn’t go back myself.

This was my first time here and the second visit for my husband. It was wonderful! The place is very elegant. We both ordered lunch specials. So much food! The entrees come with soup, a crab rangoon and 2 chicken wings. The shrimp with broccoli was absolutely delicious! My husband said his Kung Pao Shrimp was too salty. He mentioned this to the manager (she asked how everything tasted), and she took 10% off our bill. This was not expected! We both took home leftovers. Will definitely be back!

I ordered the sweet & sour chicken, which came with fried rice, 2 chicken wings, and a crab rangoon. Overall, the meal was very enjoyable
• Sweet and Sour Chicken - Excellent. The batter was crisp and golden, and the chicken was juicy and tender. The sauce had a perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess
• Fried Rice - Average. Not great, not terrible
• Chicken Wings - Nicely cooked with a light, crisp batter. Minimal grease
• Crab Rangoon - Crispy exterior with a creamy, flavorful filling
Tasty food, and the staff were also pleasant. Overall very satisfied. Would happily visit again

Was excited to try. Hostess was welcoming for the pick up lunch. Portions great, food looked great but the sweet and sour chicken and two side pieces that came with lunch were the same, had no seasoning and dry. Fried rice bland. Egg drop soup was delicious.

Great atmosphere. Interior is tastefully decorated. Don’t let the exterior plaza look fool you. Food was great. Wife said this was the most flavorful Chinese food she has eaten. Highly recommend. Will eat here again next time I’m in town.

Yesterday, I and four other people visited Hunan Bistro. Overall, and to the point, I am glad that Rochester can now claim to possess a great Chinese restaurant.
I have long had five , easily identifiable, points to help identify a better-than ordinary Chinese restaurant. 1) Chinese customers in the restaurant. 2) Chinese waitstaff. 3) Chinese characters on the menu. 4) Chopsticks on the table. 5) Chinese muzak Hunan Bistro only failed #4 and #5. Chopstick's were quickly provided once asked for. The country-Western Muzak was OK, but a little bit of 邓李准 would have been better.
As for food, my host ordered a whole steamed fish (excellent), sliced cold beef appetizer (great), pepper-chicken (great), and a hot soup (also great).

You might not find this place without knowing that it’s there. FIND IT!. You’ll be happy that you did. These people care about the food they’re serving…Scallion pancakes and egg rolls were excellent and paired with flavorful sauce. Pork fried rice was classic and delicious. Dry pot frog legs extra spicy with vegetables were fresh and fantastic. I’m a sucker for crispy duck. This wasn’t a regular 5 spice duck. It was special. Thanks for a great experience
