The food and service is amazing! Hands down the best soul food in Rochester, Minnesota! The food was so flavorful and seasoned very generously! I Definitely come back in the future and recommend us to anyone who is interested in trying soul food because Shell’s kitchen is a game changer!

Went to shells kitchen on September 10th 2025!!! First time being there and as a kid that was around a lot of south folks I can say for certain the soul food provide from shell is incredible we where blown out of the water with how fresh and quick everything was prepared since it’s made to order and if you can wait a bit while it’s getting prepared you will not be disappointed and when we went she was the only one in the kitchen I could see at the time hats off to you shell amazing cooking amazing energy this is definitely a staple in the Rochester area

I’m very disappointed with my meal this Sunday! The food was terrible, I didn’t receive the extra chicken I ordered. The dressings were old tasting and looking, it tasted like slop! The macaroni is out of the box and unacceptable for a soul food Sunday dinner! It was a complete waste of money and time! But I did enjoy the collard greens. Other than that, the cook needs to be changed to someone who actually know what they are doing!

One of my friends told me about this place so I decided to try it I paid thirty dollars for this trash the dressing looks like bread pudding the Mac n cheese was tasteless the roast was dry and stringy she gave me a tiny piece of cornbread it was awful this was the worst attempt at southern food I have ever seen please don’t waste your time, money or appetite going here It’s Horrible signed a potiential customer that she lost due to her inability to cook

This food is truly a breath of fresh air—it takes me back to the comforting flavors of my family’s Southern home cooking back in Texas and South Carolina. Shell (The owner) is incredibly humble and offers a wonderful variety of dishes, each one full of flavor and care. The prices are affordable, but what really stands out is the warmth and soul in every bite. The food is less like takeout delivery food and more like being welcomed into someone’s home for a lovingly prepared meal.

If you've not tried Shell's Soul Food yet, you're missing out on a truly delicious, happy emotion-provoking food experience. The proprietor greeted us with a smile, was super friendly and helpful. The Sunday menu offerings include fried chicken, catfish, mac and cheese, collard greens, delectable yams, cornbread and much more. Our meals were hot and freshly prepared to order. The fried chicken is perfectly seasoned, juicy with a supremely crunchy coating, when dipped in mild sauce is so good. The catfish is mild and moist with a crunchy breading and tasty seasoning. The yams are sweet and are the perfect complement to the chicken, fish, collard greens and mac and cheese which evoke umami savory flavors so together with fresh baked cornbread offer the range of flavors and balance that makes for an experience not to be missed. The collard greens are so tasty. Don't forget about dessert! Today's offerings include banana pudding and red velvet cake - both homemade and delicious. We will definitely be returning to try out the week day offerings soon.
