I went in this place for the first time this Jan and the experience was strange. We all ordered coffees, and 3 of us ordered cake and I ordered baklava. The baklava was fresh but the cakes are pre packaged SaraLee type things so everyone else thought that was terrible, Inconsistent and weird. But a major issue I had was that I went to use the women’s restroom in back and it was locked but the men’s was wide open. So naturally I assumed that it was occupied by someone and I stood there waiting for whoever it was to finish in there. The staff person comes back there and tells me “Oh no one’s in there, we locked it.” I asked her why, because I assumed they didn’t lock it considering the men’s room isn’t locked and no one’s in it. She tells me “ We only lock the women’s bathroom not the men’s, because women are messy.” Excuse me?
a woman trying to tell me that women are messy and men are not. Insulting, biased and strange. She’s looking at me like I was supposed to agree with this weird idea. Like men’s restrooms are always spotless and women are just always the ones causing a mess. Sorry but no, that’s weird. Anyone can be messy or not messy, gender notwithstanding. That on top of the fact that the coffee was not very good to begin with, and they served all of my friends pre packaged little cake slices at a sit down restaurant. The wait person was not friendly and one of my friends ordered breakfast that didn’t look very good. In spite of that, the whole atmosphere in there made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, like they had some kind of problem having a group of white women in their establishment. We aren’t racists and you shouldn’t be either, if that was in fact what their issue was.
Their dinner or lunch items might be better that the stuff we ordered, I have no idea. We came in early. They seem to get decent reviews on their lunch dishes, but our experience was uncomfortable as a whole and I don’t know why they were making it that way for seemingly no reason. What’s with the strange sexist bathroom thing? What’s with some pastry being terrible pre packaged stuff and the next person gets a freshly made dessert? I wasn’t even sure how I felt after I left other than confused.

Business on the front. Party in the back. There is a hidden room in the back for Eritrean men to play pool and hang out. The food is good quality and cooked to perfection by the women behind the window. The Beef Tibs is so fresh and so tasty. Lamb Tibs, Shiro, Tibs Firfir, Kikil, Tsebhi Derho (Doro Wat) are great to order as well and try the taste Eritrea 🇪🇷 The injera bread it’s great too.

I tried 5 Star Cafe out for dinner. I wasn’t disappointed w/ my choice. I ordered keywot with rice. Normally you would eat it with injera I just wasn’t in the mood for that this time around. It was really flavorful & I’ll definitely order it again thanks to this first positive experience.

Bartender/waitress was very rude didn't even greet me and my daughter when we first came in act like she had a attitude the whole time. & while waiting I noticed she GREETED two older caucasian men Nicely and professionally. As she continued to mugg me and make it problem acting like I'm a bother because I asked if my order was ready. SMH not for black ppl or urban people!

I have never had Coffee as good as the Five Star Cafe's. I mean you're not realky getting good coffee from places like starbucks or caribou compared to them. I was able to work on my music and be moee focused than I've been for a very long time! The service was great too, very fast not thay they needed to be, because the art on the coffee was very nice as well. I haven't gotten their coffee out of my head yet haha and I plan on going there whenever I have business or just to relax and read, it's a great atmosphere with a cool looking bar, chill patrons and owners and servers that are so friendly with nice smiles. Five stars for the Five Star Cafe!

Spent two hours here while waiting for kids at Circus Juventus. Had one of the best salads that I’ve had in my entire life. Leah, the server, was excellent and made me feel comfortable throughout my extended stay. WiFi is available. Extended stays are welcome. There is a pool table in the back. A bar around an espresso machine and approximately 10 low top tables with seating for four at each. The vibe is very happy, primarily to gather with friends and have a chat over good food and drinks if you would like. There were a significant number of takeout orders and deliveries while I was there. They do DoorDash and GrubHub. Prices are reasonable, and the quality of the ingredients was excellent. Very well spiced.

It was our first visit to 5 Star Cafe. We tried the Zilzil tips and Kikil. The beef in the Zilzil was very tough and difficult to chew. Based on that experience doubtful we will give them another try.
