I went there for the Monday open mic. Thank goodness the Martinis were good because there was no open mic and no explanation on why there was no open mic, even though the website prompted its open mic as one of the best in the Twin Cities.
Sign ups are supposed to start at 9 and the open mic is supposed to start at 9:30. I was too busy writing, reciting and sipping on my Martini to notice that it was 10:30 and the Cheers crowd packed the place, playing pool, darts and talking politics. I mentioned the open mic to the bartender (who knew I came there for that specific reason) and he brushed it off as a fluke and went on being Sam the Bartender from Cheers.
That's all fine and dandy, but I took Tuesday off to see some local talent, have a couple of Martinis, and perform. What I got instead was a thirty-, something crowd that wasn't really concerned about an open mic or live performances.
The complaint isn't about the service, the drinks, or the people. It's about advertising and open mic that may or may not happen.
Just a friendly warning to my fellow Underground Artists who may choose this spot to do their thing on a Monday night. Most of us have day jobs, families, and other responsibilities. When an establishment promotes an open mic, there should be an open mic, whether there's one performer or a dozen.
Very disappointed in the CAMP Bar. Saint Paul needs a space for underground performances. If you don't have it, don't promote it, and we'll take our performances to places that are concerned with helping us practice and perfect our art. Not ignoring us and catering to Cliff Calvin the Mail Man who comes there 4 times a week.
Artists beware. Daddy Phantom... Out!

I had high hopes for this place because someone had recommended it to me for trivia… trivia was fine but sitting at the bar being ignored by the bartender for 3 HOURS is insane. I cannot stress enough how HORRIBLE the service was. Like honestly flabbergasted. The two bartenders on staff both seemed nice enough initially, but we were literally skipped over numerous times while trying to call them to the point I felt invisible. I was literally standing reaching over the bar while literally screaming and waving for them (despite it not even being that loud in there and only half full) just to get their attention that the beer I’ve been trying to get droplets out of for the past 30 minutes is empty. Not ONCE during the entire time we were there did they check in on us on their own accord. I quit bartending school halfway through and I could’ve been 10x the bartenders we saw while there.

They charge you $3.50 for water even when the rest of the table is ordering drinks, the bartender is an absolute prick about it as well. That’s a move maybe you’d pull if you were a desirable place to be, it’s possibly the least exciting spot in St. Paul on top of zero food and horrible drink options. The bartender being a prick is quite the enticing reason to come back when you offer nothing else

It's become an eclectic, welcoming, go-to space in downtown St. Paul that is open late – a rarity in the smaller twin.

Another great time. Bartenders are coo, drinks are straight and had a good time with my cousin.

They call the cops on me because they gave me poor service the bartender can’t read a state ID put me in cuffs why call the cops and say they have a Gun when there was no Gun to top it off a guy walk up to me and tell me he is a little races wow all we want to do was have a few shoots and look at the playoffs that bad to be honest I don’t want to give a star because of the level of disrespect and everything else as a whole I don’t recommend this place at all making false statements to 911

Used to be a queer bar but it’s a straight packer bar, whom blatantly support police. Seems like a bar that belongs out in a small town not downtown St. Paul.

Camp is an overall great bar! From their awesome and attentive servers (Britt, Josh, Nate, Frank, Tim and Brian) to their awesome selection of tap beer and mixed cocktails, darts, pool, trivia and live singing nights to their comedy cabaret next door, they have a little bit of everything (plus Heggies pizza)! The bar is very, VERY LGBTQIA+ friendly, the vibe is chill and it's a great place to hang.
