The vegan sampler was worth the ten minute walk in the cold from the hotel. Tasty and the people were quite accommodating.
While we were in Minnesota for our event, we had the absolute pleasure of dining at Erta Ale Ethiopian Restaurant. The owners, Amy and Derje, were the best hosts we could have asked for welcoming us with such warmth and genuine hospitality.
They treated us to a wonderful buffet that was overflowing with authentic Ethiopian flavors. The kitfo, aybe, and gomen were out of this world fresh, perfectly seasoned, and truly unforgettable. Every dish, from the injera to the wot and tibs, was prepared with care and love, giving us a real taste of home.
On top of the incredible food, the customer service was exceptional. Amy and Derje made us feel like family, ensuring we were comfortable and that every detail was perfect.
If you’re ever in Minnesota, Erta Ale Ethiopian Restaurant is a must-visit for the delicious buffet, the out-of-this-world kitfo, aybe, and gomen, and the amazing hospitality that makes you feel right at home.

Delightful and very accommodating hosts, delicious foods, appropriate music. Perhaps the addition of some fabric woven hangings or chairs would soften the restaurant noises.

I've eaten at many Ethiopian restaurants and generally been very happy with the food. However this restaurant did not seem to understand Ethiopian seasoning so I found the food to be very tasteless and not very interesting to eat. It's unfortunately because I had really been looking forward to going there.

I’ll start with saying that we love Ethiopian cuisine, I was introduced to it 7 years ago and fell in love. We loved to an area that obviously didn’t have anything like this 5 years ago so I learned how to make some of my favorite dishes (and found how hard injera is to make).
So when we came to the twin cities to celebrate we looked and found Erta Ale for a good and hearty Sunday lunch. Boy. They did not disappoint! ❤️ Not only did this blow other restaurants out of the water (and obviously my own too), but I was able to try dishes that I had not tried before. The injera was AMAZING! They use sour dough starter to give it a nice sour bite which was so good to have with the dishes. The price was good too! Our server was very personable and friendly, he went out of his way to explain the cuisine to people unfamiliar with it and was really happy to hear that I’ve cooked my own dishes of it too. Overall just lovely people making some of the most soul healing food I think anybody could eat.
I really can recommend this place enough. Great food, great service, and trivial pursuit to pass the time with. You can’t go wrong!
