You ever step into a place that somehow feels like home, even though you’ve never set foot in the state before? That’s exactly how I felt walking into Gopher Bar.
The original wood interior and walls packed with memorabilia make it clear this isn’t just a bar—it’s a living piece of St. Paul history. It feels worn in, but in all the right ways… like generations have laughed, argued, celebrated, and made memories here.
While I was sitting at the bar, I heard an older couple behind me reminiscing about coming here when they were college kids. That says everything. This place has been a cornerstone of the community for decades, and you can feel it the moment you walk in.
It’s authentic. No pretense. Just a damn good neighborhood bar with roots.
If you want a true St. Paul experience, skip the trendy spots and head to Gopher Bar. You’ll understand why locals keep coming back.

Very Rude and Installing Woman bartender. Won’t be back. Charged us more than what we ordered. Put someone else’s tab on our bill. Then got mad she had to fix her mistake. Go somewhere else for a hot dog and beer. Many more choices in St Paul.

Coney island were amazing as usual. But cant say the same for the customer service. Not once but twice was i treated like an absolute burden and mine and my companys presence was an absolute annoyance. Pretty sure the guy that was acting like such a prick is the cook. Bartender was pleasant. Waitress was also nice. But the guy just throws the entire atmosphere off. Both times i felt very unwelcome.

Love this place! Ole school all the way. Best Coney Dogs anywhere. Zach, Jazzy, and Jamie ROCK. This is the Go To in St. Paul. I stay at the Springhill Suites next door just to come to this magical wonder. Must visit.
The Gopher is a no nonsense kinda place with decent prices and a good coney. Server was friendly and quick, large selection of alcohol and decent beer choices. The caramel apple Jell-O shot was a bonus 😊

My friends had told me I have to try the coneys at the Gopher Bar. I’m in St. Paul like never, so I have never got to go. I tried to go in July, but they were closed. And with their limited hours, it makes it tough.
I was finally in the area on a Saturday night, and hungry. I stopped in and it was well lit with plenty of seating. Fun, friendly atmosphere with a great wait staff. Fast service for a Saturday evening after 10pm. Got the drinks quickly, got the food quickly. Great service. I might go back just for the service.
I got the deep fried ravioli as an appetizer. Kind of like pizza rolls. They were delicious. I’d get them again for sure.
I also finally got to try the coneys. While they are expensive at $4 apiece, they are delicious. Served hot with a mountain of onions and on special toasted buns specifically for these coneys, it was a great experience. The only knock on the coneys is they don’t come with mustard on them which was odd. I knew they were missing something. I added the mustard and they were great. The dogs have a great “snap” to them when you bite them as they should.
I will definitely be back. Best coney’s in the metro that I’ve found. And I’ve tried a LOT of places.
Just be warned, parking in ST. Paul can be a nightmare and the Gopher Bar only takes cash.
