The service was nice and helpful. But they were out of most drinks and for the prices we saw on the menu we were expecting something more exciting. Especially since the descriptions of the rolls sound creative and intriguing. We got very decent but plain and rather boring sushi. And the skewers are tiny and not worth it. The place does bot seem super clean and the decor is rather chaotic. We won't be coming back.

We used to come here often for date nights after work when we worked in downtown St. Paul or grab a bite before a Saints game. We decided to stop in for some sushi with our little one before a Cretin game at CHS. Unfortunately, the food and the service is not the same as it used to be. We walked in at 5:20 ish and was told by the host that there wasn't a sushi chef, therefore no sushi or fish items were available that evening. We decided to still dine in for their Japanese hot dogs and ramen. Once we were seated, about half the menu was unavailable and their tap beer selections were limited. The server was unsure herself and it wasn't until we ordered that she would check. The beer was watered down. Food was overpriced. There was a note that the reason for overpriced food was to compensate for their service ?? 18% if I could remember correctly. Our little one dropped a plate accidentally and broke it. The host looked irritated and said rudely for me to move my chair. We thanked him for cleaning it up and apologized for the inconvenience. He didn't respond and looked annoyed. No eye contact, didn't acknowledge our apology, nothing. Very unprofessional and immature. I wanted to tell everyone else coming in to run far away from this place. I only gave it 2 stars because of how big the kids ramen was and how delicious my chicken Katsu sandwich was. That's about it. Will never come back here!

Don’t leave many reviews, but my first experience was not a good one. Good itself was fine, but maybe only come here if you need to slowly introduce people to Japanese food. More of a fusion place with unique ideas. What really killed my experience was the service. I’m one of the most patient around, but the service was just awful. Probably the worst I have had in years. Was greeted at the door with minimal enthusiasm, food took forever to arrive (even just for gyoza) and nobody really seemed like the cared to be there. There wasn’t even that many people there either. Could have been a bad night, but I won’t go back willingly unless Im out voted with a group.

Only place in town that has Japanese style bread/sandwiches! Yakisoba Dog tastes great, especially the rich Mayo. Tonkatsu uses pork shoulder and is very flavorful. Great service too! So no nice. They don't accept tips, that is a plus too. Their service is on point.

very cute place and the food was good but portions are really small for the price. the yakisoba was too salty for me and the portion was way too small, probably the size of a man's fist. the ebi maki roll was just too small for the price.

The ramen was particularly tasty and the tea was delicious too. I liked how the pork in the ramen had a good char to it. Definitely added to the ramen's flavor complexity!

Paid $17 for a a finger of whisky but it was definitely more like a teaspoon of whisky. Had sushi and onigiri and the rice was dry and hardly seasoned at all. Paid $13 for a 6 piece maki roll that Target could've done just as well. Everything was way too expensive and the food was not nearly worth the price.

If you're wondering whether not not to go to the Minneapolis or St. Paul location--don't go to the St. Paul location. We walked into a half filled restaurant at 6:30 and were told it would be a 45 min wait at first and then an hour and a half. We sucked it up and made an online reservation for later and returned. We're regulars at the MPLS location so expected a similar experience but it was worlds apart. The menus were not up to date, the staff was inattentive and at times rude, and there were many menu items unavailable. Our party of four felt like a huge inconvenience to the staff the entire time. Major fail.

Delicous local Japanese restaurant with a focus on various sushi and sashimi types as well as an extensive Japanese drinks menu.Great vibe for a date night or just to casually enjoy some amazing fresh sushi! The Hamachi roll was delish but the Pressed Sushi is definitely worth trying. I can't say I've ever had that but its worth the flavor.Their cocktails, also phenom. They have everything from Japanese whiskeys, to sake to local beer but our favorite was their Sweet Plum whiskey cocktail (seasonal) and Kyatchi 75

Chef Z is very passionate about his craft. I appreciate his hospitality and his efforts to make every bite amazing. He presented me a nigiri dish that wasn’t on his menu which consisted of Marinated Beet king salmon. Fatty and absolutely amazing. Melts in your mouth. Savory and delicious.Thank you Chef Z. I will be making this my new go to sushi spot.

It was my first time in Minneapolis and especially cold when I drove over here and wandered in. The man at the door was really professional and courteous. The orange dream cocktail was tasty and had a lovely presentation. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also very soothing. The tonkatsu was really remarkable. I loved it. It was simple but delicious and really better without the sauce. If I'm back in town I would go out of my way to revisit.

Kyatchi is a Japanese restaurant in St. Paul. There is a parking lot close by which is very convenient. We had reservations for 6:00pm on Monday night. The restaurant had few tables, most of which were empty, so we were seated right away. We glanced at the menu and saw a lot of unfamiliar food. The waitress was kind and introduced herself with a big smile but wasn't very helpful answering our questions about the menu. We ordered gyoza and sake salmon sushi rolls for our appetizers and I ordered lemonade to drink. It was tart but in a good way while simultaneously being bitter and sweet. It was delicious and it was obvious it was homemade. The gyoza (potstickers) were crispy to an extent but still had a soft exterior layer on top. The filling, meat and vegetables, was delicious. The salmon was delicious and I don't even like fish. It wasn't too fishy and the rice and sweet soy sauce together was phenomenal. Since our appetizers were so good, we decided to put our main meal order in. The sea-life aesthetic filled the walls as the food was being prepared in the kitchen that was open for guests to see. Our ramen and Japanese hot dogs were brought out and they looked delicious. The array of new foods in the ramen like bamboo shoots and pork belly looked devine. The hot dog buns were so soft and toppings were incredible and interestingly delicious. It was on the pricey side but I would definitely recommend it.

Very cozy and intimate. Went here with my partner to celebrate an occasion and everything was phenomenal. I swear I had a religious experience with some sashimi. I had ramen, kara-age chicken, and Binsho sashimi. I would not have changed a single thing. The server was patient with our ignorance of certain sushi terms and attentive even as the restaurant filled. The other thing I adore about this place is that they removed tipping from their service completely and incorporated a 19% service charge right into the menu prices so that their staff can earl a livable wage not subject to the whimsy of total strangers. It’s nice that it’s in the menu prices ensuring there’s no bill shock at the end either.Loved my experience and will absolutely return. Would give more than 5 stars if Google wasn’t so stingy.

We love Kyatchi! Their interesting menu with sushi and hotdogs caught our eye and they are now one of our go-to sushi places in the Twin Cities. We have done takeout several times and recently dined in for the first time. The staff was masked and we wore masks until our drinks were served. The location on Prince St in St. Paul is spacious and was nice and quiet for our first dine-in experience on a Monday evening, with ample street parking on the surrounding streets. We met friends at the bar and I enjoyed a Japanese whisky sour that was refreshing and just what I needed. The entire cocktail menu looked delicious and I was tempted to try others, but settled on a follow-up glass of the rose, which was at a really good price-point and a nice accompaniment to our meal. We had a reservation for 6 at 7:30 and the service was very good. Two of our group went with ramen and four of us went the sushi route, with my husband and I also sharing the house hot dog, which comes with japanese mayo and shishito peppers. The hot dog was honestly delicious - the peppers were spicier than I think of shishitos being, but the bun was delicous and soft and fresh, and the hotdog had a very gourmet, delicious flavor to it. It came with a side of yummy potato salad and would be a very reasonable meal for one. We split that along with two rolls, which were beautiful and very tasty. The portions are a reasonable size and the sushi is not cheap, but you get what you pay for - beautiful and well-crafted rolls and a satisfying meal. We look forward to future visits and to checking out the Minneapolis location!
