I recently bought an espresso machine and a nice grinder and wanted to find a local-ish roaster to buy beans from regularly. We tried two others and weren't blown away but then I did some research and found Roots Roasting. We bought their Classic Espresso beans online and it took me maybe 2 or 3 shots to dial in and when I did—wow! We liked them so much that today we drove from Somerset, WI just to buy a fresh bag and to try their coffee in the shop. I went with a spiced mocha and my wife got "something fun" and they are both absolutely delicious! We will be back and we will continue to order beans online if we can't make the drive. Really welcoming environment and the neighborhood is nice too. Great job Roots Roasting!
I stopped in on my way out of the city and was pleased overall by the service and my experience. The barista was friendly and offered a good suggestion for me + it was delicious and well-crafted. I also took a bag of Ethiopian beans home and brewed a cup today. Very good coffee! The roast and roaster notes were spot on.

They have the best espresso I have had in the TC.
Stopped in on our way through town. It was super cute inside and the employees were nice. However, I was super disappointed in the coffee. It lacked flavor. Wish I could try again to see if this was a one time off

I've been buying my coffee beans here for a few months now. They have a good collection of roasts that are fantastic for French Press and a fun menu of specialty drinks. I love the atmosphere but it is hard to find seating at certain points throughout the day (mainly around 3pm and rush hour in the morning around 9AM). Wish the seating area was bigger. Staff have always been very friendly and accommodating. Once when the register was malfunctioning they were diligent to let everyone know the situation, get orders prepped in the line ahead, and talked with everyone. Really fun place to hangout on the weekend with friends but a bit cramped.

Mocha was expensive and didn't taste like chocolate. Scotcheroo was delicious and staff was exceptionally friendly. Good, quiet atmosphere.

Coffee is great! Great atmosphere and service overall. Busy but quiet and very clean bathrooms but with a bit of a smell and it was freezing for most of the time i was there. however, I would come again!

Great coffee and tea, and their specialty drinks are not to be missed!!
If you like sweet, sugary coffee, this is not the place.
I like sweet drinks. I don't like bitter, you'll never ever catch me drinking a black coffee, and I cannot tell what makes a roast special. For me, Roots Roasting isn't the shop. Because it's clear this is coffee for coffee people. The espresso flavor in my latte was strong, and the roast is the star of the show in their drinks. Which makes sense, given that they are a roastery.
I couldn't finish my drink. So why the five stars? Because I know that if I wasn't a wimp, if I really loved espresso and knew my stuff, I would lovvvve this place. And I don't want to knock it because I am someone that isn't knowledgeable about coffee and beans. So even though I'm heading to Starbucks for my iced pumpkin spice latte, I'm rating five stars so others who can appreciate a good roast know that this is a spot for you. :)

Coffee meh, drab interior/place to relax or work. Fast food restaurant vibe. Street parking is meh

Delightful 😊 double espresso at a sidewalk table, in the shade of a St. Paul afternoon.

My favorite little St. Paul coffee shop 🤍
Not only the best cup of coffee I've had in Minnesota but the barrista welcomed me like a friend they hadn't seen in years. If I worked off my laptop I would live here.

Great staff that were very helpful and made good recommendations. They also engaged with our 3 and 1 year old which is always appreciated. This is a great Mac-Groveland spot for study or conversation. The iced latte was great too!
