Things were good
The best chinese-american I've had, in terms of they either use great wok technique, or know how to fake the wok-hei better than most. The chow fun and fried rice are on point with this

I had been craving chowmein from here for a long time. Stopped in on Friday, July 18 for take out and was very disappointed. The fried rice was taste less, the chowmein mediocre, and the noodles were stale along with fortune cookie. The wontons were ok. It is not the same place at all, just the building is the same. The name isn't the same either. The old restaurant had fabulous food! This place not so good and high priced for what you get. I will not return.

Hidden Gem on the East Side: Sui Yep Cafe is a Must-Try
We finally tried Sui Yep Cafe on Payne Avenue after a friend recommended it and I’m so glad we did. This mom-and-pop Chinese restaurant is the definition of a hidden gem. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. It’s run by an older couple who clearly put their heart into every part of the experience.
We ordered:
Cream cheese wontons
Mongolian beef
Beef lo mein
Teriyaki chicken with vegetables and rice
The restaurant itself is small, clean, and charming. Yes, it has that old-school East Side vibe, but it’s spotless! From the dining area to the peek we got of the kitchen. Every utensil, surface, and station looked organized and well cared for. Despite it being just the two of them working, the food was ready in under 15 minutes.
Now the food:
Wow. We’ve eaten at plenty of other Chinese spots around town; usually at higher price points, but this was hands down some of the best Chinese food we've ever had. Every dish was made to order, fresh, and full of flavor. The Mongolian beef was a highlight tender, flavorful, and clearly made with quality meat, not the prepackaged stuff. The lo mein was perfect springy noodles, fresh-cut veggies, and the kind of wok-seared flavor that shows care and experience. Even the teriyaki chicken came packed with flavor and sat on a bed of perfectly cooked rice.
And the price? All of that for under $50. In 2025, that’s practically unheard of.
We left impressed, full, and already planning our next visit. If you're looking for delicious, affordable, home-style Chinese food served by kind folks who take pride in their work! Sui Yep Cafe deserves your business. Highly recommeded!!!!

There was a problem with our order, my husband called and they promised a refund. Never got the refund. We went in a couple days after and they refused to give the refund they had promised.

Love grabbing food from Sui Yep. Always fast and delicious. I believe it's family-owned and they've always been kind. Also they've opened up the dine in area so hopefully they can continue to thrive.

This is the same place I ate lunch at in the 1950's and 60's while I attended Erickson Elementary. I believe we were given 50¢ to spend.
Still a great place to eat.
The food was great. I was just in the mood for Chicken Lo mein after work and this hit the spot. The service was great too. The server made sure that I was comfortable and was more then polite.

I've always liked this place, never dissatisfied, thank you for being here!!
They are such an adorable family run restaurant that always has amazing food!!! I live nearby and often walk over to get food and they are so welcoming! Im a big supporter of small businesses cause my family grew up with a small business so you can say i have an affinity maybe even a bias towards small mom n pop shops!
