When this place first opened, it was a 5 star restaurant with a creative menu, thick slices of fresh sashimi, and great flavors. But, the quality of the food has really declined over time. The spicy tako salad and crispy rice tuna are both must haves, and I get them every time. But, the last few times, the salad just wasnt the same. Literally! I remember big cuts of fresh tako (octopus) in this sald, but these days they use a marinated tako that still tastes good, but I miss the old version. I dont know, the entire salad just doesn't feel as fresh and delicious anymore. The crispy rice tuna is still excellent. We also got the regular sushi platter, and although the portions are still good, I wouldnt trade that for quality - especially with raw fish. Everything looked dull and not appealing. The service was great, and it was generally a good experience, but geez, I miss the excellent food.

Yumi has been on my radar for a long time, but before this weekend I didn't have an excuse to visit. It's definitely on the spendy side but the quality and portions are top notch. I can pretty comfortably say that if you're looking for high quality sushi, Yumi is the place to go. I was really impressed with my chefs choice specialty roll and I think that next time I'll go for an assortment of maki and nigiri to highlight their skill and fresh ingredients.

I didn't realize this was a fairly new addition to the selby ave neighborhood, we dined outside on the patio and our server was great. Everything was delicious and fresh, the sushi and the fried rice - chefs kiss. The calamari was the only thing that didn't knock my socks off, just too big for my liking but it was good. Great cocktails, great food and great service.

Let's start this review off with I never give 5 stars. Ever. I loved the sushi, I loved the service, I loved the bartender and I loved the vibe. I just came from the San Francisco Bay Area where I had literally thousands of sushi bars to choose from. Yumi nailed it. They surprised me. The fatty tuna - excellent. The yellow fin excellent. I am going back and bringing others.

We're new to the area (moved from CA) and have been looking for some good sushi. Our server was great. She was helpful with the menu and recommendations, and we never felt like she forgot about us. We ordered the calamari and three rolls. Everything tasted pretty fresh. The rolls we ordered were the most expensive, but they were also quite large. One was a little fishy (maybe the soft shell crab), but they all had good flavor. We really liked the Tonka roll, which is quite unique (in a good way) with a soy wrapper and cilantro, and the Icee roll with the icee mix (chopped up whitefish mixed with chili oil; not spicy just flavorful). There's street parking and a good-size parking lot for the complex (they validate).

The sushi was basic and NOT worth the price. Server was very nice but it took too long to get our sushi considering the place was practically empty. Very underwhelmed.

Great service and amazing food. Shrimp shumai was delicious, and the yellow tail nigiri was so fresh! Definitely will be coming back.

Came here for restaurant week and I was really pleased with the service and food! My server was super sweet and super friendly as I came by myself. Can't remember her name unfortunately, but she was great! I would say, their shrimp shumai is literally to DIE FOR. It's not what you'd expect and it is absolutely perfect. Since I went for restaurant week, they had a limited menu, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. I would love to go back and upgrade them to 5 when I taste other things. Overall, my experience was lovely, the price was reasonable for what I got, and glad I went here! Can't wait to take my husband here!

Ordered a Negihama roll and four pieces of sake negiri as I was in a hurry among my party if three and 40 minutes later had to leave as this simple order was nowhere in site. $16.95 glass of sake and no apology or effort to compensate. Second time disappointed and tired of referring people here. Done! They prioritize to go as that flies out the door, but, ask them to prioritize once and you're too demanding. Mediocre sushi at premium prices...done! Yumi must be ashamed if what happened to her legacy of quality and service. Done with Yumi...

This was an unexpected find for last minute date night to celebrate our anniversary. Service was excellent! Good was amazing. We ordered a tonka roll, sashimi sampler platter and seaweed salad plus gyoza to end the night. The Tonka roll was delicious with the creamy sauce, soy wrapper and big chunks of fish with cilantro makes it so tasty! The best sushi roll over had in long time! The sashimi platter was a pleasant surprise with thick slices of fish which was awesome! The seaweed salad tasted so fresh and probably by far the best I've had. The gyoza was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. All very good. Would definitely come back!

We were looking for amazing sushi and man did we ever find it at Yumi! They're in a great location off Shelby Ave in St Paul with free parking at a dedicated lot. Most sushi places have great saki, but here not only do they have saki, but Japanese cocktails that go down smooth and mix with American flavors. The "You Only Live Twice" cocktail is amazing and should tempt you if you're looking for a martini style drink with a Japanese flair! The spicy edamame was so delicious! That sauce should go on everything and the restaurant should definitely bottle it for additional sales. The miso soup is excellent! Lots of tofu, plenty of flavor and that kiss of green onion to bring out the flavor. Don't forget the sushi! We tried the crunchy spicy tuna, the double dragon and the spicy tuna rolls and all were fantastic! The right amount of flavor, spice and fresh fish! I highly recommend you make this your favorite sushi restaurant in town! They also have beers, saki, wine, noodle dishes and an entire dinner menu that we did not try on this venture in order to fit more sushi in our lives and bellies. Great outdoor seating, large seating space indoors with clean facilities and amazing ambiance! Go enjoy your next dinner adventure!

Oh man. Come here, get the crispy rice, live your best life. My fave sushi in St. Paul.

Nice decor but food is really really bad. The key to good nigiri and maki is good, quality rice. The rice here is sticky, overcooked, and dry. And the nigiri had way too much of this terrible rice and the fish was so poorly cut and chewy. The agedashi tofu was soaked and soggy. The spicy edamame was basically edamame drenched in spicy sauce. Not good. The tempura was decent and was the only edible dish we ordered. There are tons of good sushi restaurants around the twin cities. This is one of the worst. Stay away. It's expensive the food is even worst than supermarket sushi. If I could, I would give this zero stars.

Holy Smokes! WTH did I just eat?!?!? For the price, this was the WORST SUSHI I have ever had in a sit down sushi restaurant. Even Cub Foods sushi is better than this place! Please avoid this place at all cost! Their chefs need major training and needs to start by learning how to make rice first like most legitimate sushi restaurants. It is a disgrace to serve this kind of sushi and be called "Yumi", which means beautiful in Japanese. Instead, this place should be called "Mazui Sushi". Will never return again!
