Palmer House Hotel & Restaurant

Great historical property that lives up to its reputation. The rooms are in line with what you'd expect from a historic, reportedly haunted location—charming and atmospheric. The on-site bar is spacious and offers excellent service, complemented by a dining room serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Located in a very small town with a two-block downtown area, activities are limited primarily to paranormal investigation and enjoying the local bar scene. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming throughout the stay.

Noteworthy details: The hotel itself is pretty amazing. My friends, my sister and I went to celebrate my 50th birthday, which was going great until we met the staff member, Joy. My biggest piece of advice, don't piss her off. We are not sure what we did from the beginning but she made our stay almost unbearable. We even considered leaving and staying at another hotel.
Joy walked right into our room one day and she accused us of smoking marajauna and cigarettes in our room!!! I was shocked!! I thought to myself, who would smoke in their room with the door wide open??? Nobody!!!
She was looking for anything to get us into trouble. She basically ignored us, but she was super friendly and outgoing with the other guests.
I got home and looked at my CC statement and I saw I had been very much overcharged on my CC.
Joy said it is because we had an extra person in our room. Never, not once were we told this, we can't see it on the website because the website hasn't worked in weeks!! We had thought about coming back, but as long as Joy is an employee, we will stay far away.
We did have THE BEST TIME EVER having breakfast Saturday morning, Angie and the Chef, they were so much fun!! They had us laughing the entire time!!
Again, the best piece of advice is to watch out for Joy, she's not hard to find, you'll know it's her when she starts talking and making you feel terrible about yourself, or if you ask her a question and she walks right past you. She's an extremely hateful person and the locals will tell you exactly what they think of the hotel and Joy's behavior as well. Just make sure that you get an invoice, I was not given one which is why I was wondering about the extra charges in which I did not authorize. Since they do not anyhave a working website, be sure to ask every single question imaginable because they won't tell you anything, you just get a big surprise on your credit card.

I understand the old rundown feel adds to the paranormal appeal but for the price it would be nice to see some of that money put back into the hotel. Like perhaps new carpet, or a working hot tub in the "hot tub room", but if that's too much maybe just a quick phone call to let the guest that reserved a hot tub room a month in advance and whom had a 3 hour car ride to get there know that the hot tub wasn't working, and give them the opportunity to reschedule, or call in a plummer to fix it before they arrive. With that being said, the people that work at the hotel and the guests that stay there were friendly, outgoing, and all around just great people.

Immaculate vibes at the Palmer House Hotel.

Had an absolutely lovely weekend at the Palmer House. The historic nature of the hotel, incredibly friendly staff that are brimming with stories of that rich history, and clear attention to preserving as much of the original charm of the space all comes together with comfortable amenities (and unique room layouts!) The hotel is walkable to so many cute shops and restaurants, although I found the food at the Palmer House to be my favorite in the area.

I absolutely love this place, like many I enjoy calling this place my home away from home. Amazingly friendly people, delicious waffle fries, fun atmosphere, and especially haunted. A great getaway hotel for paranormal enthusiasts.

Everything was awesome. Good bar/restaurant and normal prices. The hot tub was functioning optimally and was hot the whole time.

It’s an old hotel so you get all the floor creaks that we all love.

If I could recommend one thing, it would be to add another rubbish bin in the bedroom of the jacuzzi suite.

I’m not a ghost chaser, but I loved staying at the Palmer House. It’s old-fashioned, so hospitable and the restaurant was fantastic. It’s such a breath of fresh air compared to staying at a chain hotel.
Comfortable and clean, updated enough to suit modern needs, I highly recommend.
Note: I did not see or hear any ghosts.
