Fantastic food! I always enjoy the specials.
food not hot and macaroni and cheese was overcooked.
This a spectacular restaurant with an interesting historical story with it. The food is classic comfort fare and is expertly prepared. Worth the visit to Arrow Rock for the tavern alone let alone the charming historic village
Went on Saturday, July 8. The service was fast and attentive, the food was very good with large portions. A truly pleasant eating experience. Nice place with friendly staff….a gem in Arrow Rock!
We were very pleased with our food on Fathers Day. Beautiful indoor seating in the dining room. Waitress was so sweet. They were very accommodating with our family group.
Delicious food nicely served in an attractive unique historic setting. The all-new kitchen, the experienced chef, the new menu and the efficient and friendly manager have made the historic J. Huston Tavern the top destination restaurant in mid-Missouri. You can still get the traditional fried chicken and country ham, but the menu has been nicely expanded, with a good variety of choices. Come for the food, and enjoy the history!
We visited during the "Christmas in the Village" event, so the restaurant was extremely busy. We had reservations and got in right away at opening time. There were no menu options due to the special event - everyone got Christmas dinner of fried chicken, ham, corn, green beans, salad, rolls, and dessert. Some of the food had evidently been prepared ahead of time and refrigerated and it was barely warm. The quality was OK but nothing special, and the desserts were disappointing, especially for people who rarely eat dessert. The atmosphere was nice, but a bit too dark. The servers were very rushed with the crowd, but did a good job. We might try this again on a non-festival day.
The performance of "Sherwood" was THE reason we visited Arrow Rock, MO. I am certain we will be back for another performance. The acting, sets and venue were all first class, quite unexpected in such a rural, tiny town in the Midwest. The building was a church at one time, which adds a ton of charm. Seating is comfortable and there is a good number of options for refreshments beforehand, however the prices are too high imo. After the show, there are some great restaurants and shops to check out.
Perfect place to begin our evening before the Lyceum play! Proprietor was friendly, witty and helpful. We look forward to returning soon!
Had reservations at 6 so we'd have plenty of time to enjoy dinner before the 7:30 show at the Lyceum. Arrived about 10 minutes early and we were seated immediately. A cool old building! Interesting pictures and one room depicting an 1800's kitchen. I ordered the pork chop special (2) with scalloped potatoes, green beans, and rolls. It was delicious!! My wife had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls. She had strawberry shortcake for dessert. Overall, a very nice dining experience.

Glad we had reservations and the food was great. Service friendly and loved seeing the historic building revived and useful.
Goodness! An unexpected exceptional dining experience! The Tavern had many authentic kitchen utensils, dishes and household decorations on view. It truly took you back in time to be eating in a 200 year old establishment. Our server, Savannah, was pleasant, friendly and busy getting folks fed and out the door in time for the Lyceum Theater's matinee performance. The four of us had their famous biscuits and apple butter, Fried Chicken (where's the honey?), smashed potatoes and cream gravy, green beans, succotash, cheese grits. Delicious! Portions were adequate and prices decent. If you decide to try this afternoon delight, be sure and make reservations. We saw many turned away.
dining in and the staff was extremely friendly!!
I Don't think it matters what you order, the food is great and , the people that work there a awesome!
This place reeks of history. It first served food in the 1830s, and it's on the main street of one of the most historic villages in Missouri. The tavern today is a restaurant. We had lunch. Food was very good. The atmosphere was great. If you like history, go here.
