This was our first time visiting and unfortunately it will also be our last.

When we sat down, the manager came by and took our drink order. A few minutes later our waitress dropped the drinks off but didn’t greet us, introduce herself, or check in at all. After that, she completely disappeared. During that time, she waited on at least three other tables that had been seated after us while we sat there for about 15 minutes with no service.

We eventually had to flag someone down just to ask who our waitress was so we could place our order. When she finally came over, the first thing she said was, “Are you ready to order?” without any acknowledgment that we had been sitting there waiting the whole time.

The manager later came over and said it was just a “mishap” and not intentional, but the experience still left a bad impression. For a first visit, the lack of basic service and attention was really disappointing.

We did pay for our drinks before leaving, but at that point we decided it wasn’t worth staying any longer.

The decorations of the restaurant were really nice and created a great atmosphere. The food was okay overall, but the prices were a little on the high side for what you get. Still a pleasant place to visit, especially if you appreciate the ambiance.

Good place, kind of tries to combine a finer dinning along with Mexican food. It's definitely not a hole in the wall taco joint. It's a good experience but the food, howbeit was good food but just wasn't my taste.

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for some time now so I treated him to a Valentine’s dinner here. Was not even the slightest bit disappointed. This will be a long review but very positive.
The place is decorated in neutral tones with faux vegetation that makes the place comfortable and easy to enjoy. The chips and salsa are by far some of the best we’ve had. We ordered two apps; the fresh guacamole and the cheese dip with three different proteins( chicken, steak and shrimp) the guacamole is AMAZING! If you like chunky guac, this is the place to get it. Really great flavors not spicy like some guacamoles are. The cheese dip is also delicious! My husband ordered a chicken chimichanga with rice and beans and he couldn’t stop raving about it. He said the flavors were so good and the meat is seasoned well. I tried a bite and was impressed with how tender the chicken was and how flavorful the entire dish was. I ordered the Birria plate. The meat was tender and falling apart, which I love! It came with a smaller dish of rice, a 2oz cup of red onions, finely chopped and a 2oz portion of cilantro with warmed corn tortillas. My goodness it was fantastic! We spent $75 which is well worth it!
Our server was great. He was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed for a pleasant dining experience. We order a togo of birria tacos for our daughter and she absolutely loved them. We will definitely be back since this place is practically in our back yard here in Valley Park/Twin Oaks. Highly recommend!

Went there yesterday for lunch since El Nopal was closed after 2pm for the Superbowl. The place has a great atmosphere, it feels much more upscale than other similar restaurants in the area. Food was about the same as others in the area. I do believe their dessert prices are high in my opinion so we passed on the dessert. I will say that the hostess or manager, whoever was at the front was very nice but our waitress was terrible, very unfriendly and unwelcoming. We had to ask for napkins, water, etc and she just would never say anything. I want to like this place but our waitress didn't really make it a great experience.

Carretas is a wonderful Mexican restaurant. It’s not your typical loud, brightly painted spot — instead, it offers a more relaxed, sit-down atmosphere where you can truly enjoy yourself. The Mexican cuisine is excellent, and the margaritas are absolutely delicious. A great place for a quality meal and a great drink.
