Good food, upscale dining with moderately high prices. Popular for lunch, beat the crowd and get there a little early.

My husband and I received a $50 dollar gift certificate quite some time ago. I put it back for a special occasion. I never even took it out of the envelope. When I got it out it had an expiration date on it. I called the restaurant to see if they would honor it. I was told since it was expired they would not take it. I think it is bad practice to put expiration dates on gift cards. So , in essence my son spent $ 50 of his hard earned money for nothing. You should be able to use a gift card whenever you choose.

Visiting from the OC for a church conference and was treated to this gem. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, but the food was center stage. The charcuterie board, the cornbread, the Not Your Mama's Meatloaf was ridiculously superb, along with the garlic mashed potatoes and the bacon green beans. Slightly jealous that my friends get to eat it whenever they want.. Heck I'd take it from a baby's mouth! Kidding, but it's so good and I'll go back for more.

We were surprised and impressed by the food and service here. Excellent menu choices and unique offerings that we enjoyed. I will definitely make this a regular restaurant when in the Cape Girardeau area.

I get a cheeseball made for Christmas every year and it has become a family staple. Everyone loves it!

When you are inside this place you wouldn't think it's attached to a hotel. It's cute and comfortable seating. We had a 15 minute wait on a Friday night so not bad. We had the creole fries and they were so good. It was fries with hot pimento cheese and bacon, I think. We woofed those down, even my picky teen loved it. We had a cheeseburger, grilled chicken sandwich and a Caesar salad. All was tasty and hot. Our server was great too.

Great food. Will get crowded so reservations are probably a good thing. Will go again for sure. Little pricey but...

For me, this place has been hit or miss with service. Sitting at a table by myself I usually have pretty good service. The few times I have sat at the bar not so good. The deviled eggs are a must. The fried pickles have a light batter so there is tons of flavor and not a lot of grease, their salad is pretty good but their dressings are homemade so they can be hit or miss on flavor vs heavy oil. I really enjoyed the chicken tacos. I do like the selection of homemade soups that change frequently.

Had a decent meal at the Southerner and when I got hair in my food they were happy to remake it for me. The only complaint that I had was that our waitress was not very welcoming and acted like she had better things to do. Also when they were remaking my food they constantly kept coming by every 5 minutes or so reassuring me while I was trying to enjoy the rest of my meal.

Everything was immaculate. From the food to the drinks to the service and company, I couldn't have ask for anything more. Kyrie took great care of me as a bartender, and the manager, Lauren, was very friendly and welcoming as well. As someone who travels for work, these two offered the exact kind of service that can make travelers feel like they've found a home away from home. On top of that, the cooking was good enough that I could've taken the chicken and dumplings to my family back home, and they would've said they reminded them of our granny's when she was alive. I had already recommended the place to someone before I even got to my room, and I will continue to do so to anyone that tells me the they're coming through the area. Props to these ladies and everyone in the kitchen.

I'm often leery of restaurants in hotels, however, The Southerner was an unexpected surprise. We started with a lovely amuse-bouche. Our entrees were spot on as well as the sides. Highly recommend the cabbage and bacon side. So good.
