The Capital Grille

My fiancé booked me a special dinner for my 30th birthday. Big ups to our server Greg! He did a phenomenal job. He was friendly, attentive, and very funny. He's definitely the type of server you want to go back to. We also enjoyed our food and drinks. We will be back! We loved every minute of our experience.Thank you again, Greg and the Capital Grille staff!

We celebrated my grandson's bday here is bone in KC steak was over cooked the staff did a great job replacing it my bone in ribeye was cooked perfectly all the dishes we ordered was great we were served with champagne on the house they bought out a bday dessert to my grandson the staff was amazing can't wait to go back thank you to everyone at The Capital Grille for making us feel so special..MsDenise

Absolutely phenomenal experience at The Capital Grille in Clayton. My wife and I went out for a Valentine’s date, and our server, Mark, delivered the best service we’ve ever had at any restaurant. He was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely warm — the kind of server who elevates the entire night.

Mark surprised us with complimentary champagne, dessert, and even a long‑stem rose for my wife, simply because we mentioned it was our Valentine’s celebration. That level of thoughtfulness is rare, and it made the evening unforgettable.

The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was perfect for a special night out, and the service was truly next‑level. Worth every penny. We’ll absolutely be back, and we’ll be asking for Mark again.

Highly recommend The Capital Grille Clayton for anyone looking to make a night feel truly special.

This post is not about the quality of the food or service at Capital Grille in Clayton, because unfortunately we didn’t get to experience that. Instead , I can say a few good things about their customer service. My family and I made dinner reservations for a special birthday celebration for last Saturday. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen weather conditions our reservations were cancelled. Of course, that was extremely disappointing but the situation was handled in an impressive manner. They went above and beyond and within 3 days I received a very beautiful Happy Birthday flower arrangement along with a generous gift card for a future visit. This thoughtful gesture showed me how committed they are to their relationship with the customers and left a positive impression on me. I am definitely looking forward to using the gift card and experience in person all the good things most reviewers are commenting about. If there is just one tiny remark, is that based on the weather forecast the decision of closing could’ve been made a little earlier; we literally were getting off the door and some of my guests were already on the road when I received the call cancelling the reservations. But this is minor compared to how nice this unpleasant situation was handled overall. Moving my reviews over from Yelp. This great evening took place on 10/24/18:

I started to pull out my old college thesaurus to find a few better words to describe how much I enjoyed dining at Capital Grille but somehow I keep coming back to DAMN!!!

Damn good service! Everything we wanted was provided, promptly and with a smile. Every question was answered. Every thing that should have happened, happened.

Damn good cocktails! I started with something along the lines of a blackberry bourbon sidecar and finished with their version of an old fashioned. Both were perfect and deliciously strong.

Damn nice bread basket! I like a good bread service. I enjoy some variety and they delivered in spades. My favorite of the varieties I tasted has to be their pumpernickel. I rarely eat that stuff for a reason - it can be pretty dry and lacking in flavor. Suffice to say their version was the exact opposite. Full of flavor, slightly chewy and delicious. Also, they sprinkle their butter patties with sea salt. Who doesn't love that?

Damn good shrimp appetizer. Ginormous shrimp in a delectable sauce that just begged to be mopped up with the saturated bread (similar to a focaccia) that was plated under the shrimp. Big thanks to Steven B for sharing those with the table!

Damn fine prime rib! I would not say that I'm a connoisseur but I do enjoy a good plate of prime rib and I know a bad plate of prime rib as well...looking at you, US Army formal banquet food (I kid you not, dear reader: once we had a waiter come around after setting down the plates and offer everyone extra fat). I digress. This was a really, really good prime rib. They must have applied the crusting material with a trowel because it was thick enough that it endured all the way to the table and the savory flavors it brought to the party made those outside bites just THAT much better. The beef was cooked perfectly medium rare as I ordered. Juicy, tender and perfect.

Less than mind-blowing was the clam chowder but still perfectly serviceable. There were side dishes as well but they faded into the background as I concentrated on finishing my prime rib and eating the bone marrow that came on the side.

I was pretty well smoked after consuming all of the above but somehow got talked into participating in dessert. They served us a warm apple galette with vanilla ice cream on top. I hate to say this but I think my enjoyment of the dessert was hampered by how full I was before it arrived.

Damn fine evening! Thanks again to Steven B for organizing and to Capital Grill for their $45 3-course Sunday dinner. Shout-out to Stephen W. and Mel A. for attending as well. I'll gladly dine with you again!

They made my son's birthday dinner a special experience and the food was amazing as usual! The entire staff was friendly and professional.

Bestie treated us to a dinner here. Our waiter, Greg W., had a good sense of humor, liked to discuss his travels, and was amazing at his job.

Every dish was perfect. Atmosphere was cozy and quiet but not stuffy. Very clean. Low lighting was romantic!

I'd only been here one other time and the food and the service was beyond excellent. So my family asked where I wanted to go for my Milestone birthday and I told them capital grille. The service was good and I ordered a medium well steak. The state came out rare or medium rare. I cut into it and blood came out there is also remnants of Blood on the plate. I was horrified and I lost my appetite. I sent it back and the manager came over and apologized and said that she understood what happened. She offered to make it right when they brought the steak back it was now dry and they brought it back in the same plate so there was still blood in the plate. I asked the server could I get another plate but by that time I no longer wanted that steak. The manager came over and I ordered another steak. Meanwhile my entire family was now waiting on me because they were now finished eating. They brought back the second steak which was the same steak that my daughter ordered. My steak had an entirely different look than hers did with mine looking much better. My daughter showed me a picture of the steak that she got from Capital Grille in Chicago and it looked like the one I had it was like they had two different Cooks in the back making mistakes. She said she did not want to complain since it was my birthday. So now my family is waiting on me and they say I can have the other steak with no charge maybe I can make an omelette or something with it the next day. But I no longer wanted that steak because I could not get out of my mind what I saw. Meanwhile after all of that happened and how my family had to wait on me to finish eating nothing was taken off of the check and nothing was offered to be taken off the check. I didn't ask for it to be but I just thought maybe after all of that it should have been. The manager was nice and the server was good it's just that I did not have the best experience when the only thing I wanted to do for my birthday was go to Capital Grille
