I drive an hour to get Ruiz's food and take it home, since I moved.
My family just loves it. So does my sister's family. So I get enough for both of our families.
Parking: When I go I always find a spot.
Kid-friendliness: They have good choice of food for kids.

I love all of their food, but my favorite is their beef enchiladas, guacamole Ruiz, and grilled vegetables. Very unique family-run restaurant.

We have been coming to Ruiz for over 50 years. A family favorite on the menu is the guacamole Ruiz but during the last year the inconsistency in this appetizer has us hesitating to even order it. Staff is not mixing enough avocado into the sour cream making it inedible. Tastes like straight sour cream. To say it’s disappointing is an understatement. The server took it off our bill yesterday which was nice, but not the point. After over 50 years we are asking ourselves will we go back? The answer yesterday was no.
Vegetarian options: The grilled veggies are delicious

I love the food here. I really do. What I am not a fan of anymore is the nickel & dime they do. Charging for chips and salsa is one thing - I’m don’t like it but it is what it is. However not provide chips if I purchase salsa is ridiculous. I ordered a side of the guacamole and it was $3.25 but when I saw the little amount it was disappointing. True, it says the ounces it is (so my bad there), but just didn’t put it together. The food is pricey and worth it but these charges are too much and a little off- putting.
Food is good, servers are awesome, it’s loud in there with the new design.

Ruiz' has the BEST Mexican food in Saint Louis and has been for over half a century! It is family owned and has been by the same family (the Ruiz') since it originally opened in the 1960's. I have been a customer since I was a pre-teen--my mother took me there often, and I can tell you the food tastes exactly the same because they use family recipes. Nowadays of course, they still serve those traditional dishes but have also adjusted to the times and customers' requests. They've recently "downsized" as far as the restaurant dining room size, but it was a wonderful thing to do because it is back to the way it was in the early days, giving a more family-oriented and authentic ambience. If you LOVE authentic Mexican food from the region of Mexico and Texas the Ruiz' are from, and LOVE Mole sauce like I do, you will love Ruiz'. It's an "experience" to enjoy when you go there. My favorite plate is the Beef Enchilada Plate with rice and beans. The beef is always fresh and high quality, and they shred it as opposed to browning it into crumbled pieces. Their tortilla chips are fresh and homemade, and the salsa comes in a dish--not a plastic bottle! Your food is always served on a hot plate and if, on a rare occasion, you have a need to have your food or experience attended to for improvement, Rachel and her crew will see to it that you are taken care of.

We love Ruiz! Its like chikfila, “ I know if you really really good right now, Ruiz, oh its Monday or lunch time”, but now they have lunch on the weekends! So excited! Pollo abobado is our favorite, but you cant go wrong with anything on the menu!

Restaurantji Recommends
The place looks clean and the music is nice,
The food is not bad but it is not authentic Mexican food (which I understand because it is in Missouri and has to be adapted for American Americans but they should sell the real Mexican food experience)
The sauces are not good, they look and taste like jarred sauces, I'm talking specifically about the tomatillo one.
The waiters are friendly but they take too long to serve.
They can improve
The tamales taste very good.

I highly recommend the family owned and operated Ruiz Mexican Restaurant (since 1966) in Florissant, MO. It is a fun festive family friendly establishment that serves very good authentic Mexican food and margaritas. My family consistently enjoys dining experiences and the atmosphere at Ruiz.
My husband's retirement celebration (60 guests) was held at Ruiz. The delicious buffet menu included beef empanadas, chicken enchiladas poblano, barbacoa burrito melts, corn, refried beans, rice, guacamole, pico, lettuce, mixed shredded cheeses and sour cream. A self-serve table bar was set up with buckets of beer & pitchers of margaritas along with salted and unsalted glasses. The owners allowed us to bring in a decorated cake, paper plates and plastic forks. We cut and served the cake ourselves.
The two friendly and efficient servers assigned to our party filled/refilled orders for soft drinks, tea, coffee, water, chips and salsa. They cleared off the guest dining tables as needed and made sure the buffet food and the table bar were kept full. Many compliments from us and from our guests were given to the servers and the cooks for jobs well done.
The owners/managers who oversaw our special event were polite and professional from the beginning to the end. The contractual upfront deposit was deducted from the final bill and we got 100% of our money's worth from the folks at Ruiz Mexican Restaurant!
