Great people. Delicious food
We have enjoyed Ole Planters several times but no longer. Waiting for a table Paige stormed past us 3 times totally ignoring us and so did two others. When I asked about a table she snapped that they couldn’t take any more. Another waitress said a table was opening up. A group behind us got reprimanded for sitting at a table because a customer, not an employee, told them to. Employees were dressed the same as customers so no way to identify them There was a scream from the kitchen. Seriously, you can’t make this up! We were told it was the chef because they ran out of specials. We asked what would be the easiest for the staff to order and ordered that. We chose not to walk out because it was pouring rain and few options nearby. The whole time we ate Paige stormed around the restaurant. She was consistent in totally ignoring us. Karen served us and made attempts at being civil but clearly we walked into some battle. We later found out the restaurant has been sold. The owner who sold should lock the door and be done. The new owner should not hire Paige. We understand being overwhelmed but it sure seemed there were lots of hands on deck. We don’t understand extreme rudeness.
Wow. Not good. I’ve tried 3 time now and each time was bad. Canned veggies. Lots of vinegar. Greasy meatloaf. Brats did not taste like brats but like dried out smoked meat. Every time the rolls were cold. They are not home made. Every time the soda from a can was hot. So if you like greasy, dried up food from a can, cold rolls and hot soda from a can them this is your place.
Authentic local cottage cooking with distinctly German-American flavors. Prime rib respectably mid-rare, hard to find in rural midwest. Corn could be better possibly from a can in heart of corn country. Green beans were delightful, nostalgic German country kitchen favorite. Smoky brats lean toward Bavarian. White wine sauce tasty, could be more intense of same flavor.Decor a rustic treat. Truly antique and interesting not kitchy. Succeeds where many of this ilk fail.
Nice wait staff. Food was great! I will be returning here the next time I visit this town.
Definitely discovered why the ratings ate low. The waitress was VERY rude. She acted like it was an extreme inconvenience that we were even there.
Excellent service, superior food, unbelievable yummy pies!!!
Food was over cooked. Service was busy
We had a rude waitress with zero personality. The food was fair. The pies were great. The manager/cook lecturing the 2 waitresses really ruined my desire to ever go back. He said (This is an excerpt) "There will be no substitutions whatsoever today! If a customer wants extra mushrooms etc.. etc...etc... today.... they're not getting it. Understand? Also, we tipped the waitresses quite a bit, we felt bad for her, even though she was short and rude. The icing was that she just took the whole amount we gave her when we paid, never asking if we wanted change or saying thank you. This place has major issues.
This is the honest to God's truth. Went in for lunch. I ordered a chicken fried steak and my mom ordered a Reuben sandwich. Halfway through her meal she bit down on something hard. She managed to spit it out and we realized it was an old dirty penny. I understand that things happen, but when we told the young waitress, she said she didn't know how that could have happened. I told her that her boss should be informed... I was appalled that management didn't come to apologize and put it all on the young waitress to deal with... They begrudgingly comped my mother's meal (which she didn't have the stomach to finish after finding the penny in it). Charged for my meal and our glass of wine each. I mentioned that maybe the tip jars should be moved away from the cook area, she said that it probably came from a customer. I said, " that's even scarier". Why are the customers in the kitchen? She said that a customer must have laid change by the line table and that is where the sauerkraut is, and it just "fell" in. OMG! Really? Not a single apology from management. I rarely give bad reviews.... But, this crossed the line.

The pork tenderloin sandwiches here are very delicious but the staff here is interesting, to say the least. One of the waitresses is a Karen and some of the staff can often be seen having verbal fights and it ruins the mood.
We walked off the street without doing any research. Terrible mistake. Believe the bad ratings of this place. We walked in without being greeted so I walked further into the restaurant. I asked if it was seat wherever we liked and was rewarded with a gruff NO, set over there as she pointed toward a table near the door. So we turned around a headed back to the table. Our waitress was quick to get there. Had absolutely no kind of friendliness. Ordered drinks and then our food. We got the food quickly. They advertise home made BBQ sauce. I got the BBQ pork sandwich and my wife got the ham and cheese sandwich. I asked if it was pulled pork. The waitress said “kind of”. When I got my sandwich it was sliced pork with BBQ sauce on it. It did not taste like smoked pulled pork. If it wasn’t for the sauce it would have been Terrible. It was just bad. My wife sandwich was mostly fat and dry. Check reviews before going anywhere is my lesson.
We ordered lunch, and the waitress was quiet & unsure - but she was very young. When the order came out it was wrong. My wife’s was completely wrong, and my sandwich appeared to have the wrong bread. To me it looked like some sort of wheat bread. She acknowledged the error for my wife’s order and took both plates back. The orders came back quickly, and it was clear the food was set on née plates & not freshly done. Right after that the cook appeared at our table holding a bread bag of “Beefsteak Rye” and yelling loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear: “ THIS IS THE BREAD I HAD ON YOUR ORDER!I HAD TO TAKE BREAD OFF OF SOMEONE ELSES ORDER FOR YOU! IT WAS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!” Shocked into a response I said: “Well thanks for the update, Bud!” As he stormed back to the kitchen. I lost my appetite & couldn’t trust the food, so we walked out with the meal uneaten. We left $29 on the table for the waitress, because a man who would do that is likely brow-beating the help without compunction. Pretty damned terrible experience.
22.00 for a piece of dry not even good tasting roast beef. They called it prime rib, NOT SURE WHY. The salad bar was the worst. Lettuce and what few veggies offered to put on the lettuce seemed to have been in the Fridge for some time. Very dry looking and Still not sure what dressing I put on my salad, not a single one of the four were marked. Being in downtown area, it would not hurt to step up the flavor of the food.
The Folks here are like Family you couldn't ask for more excellent service or more authentically delicious food. The Best Country Fried Steaks anywhere smack your Momma Good ? or somebody else's Momma?☝️
