Black Shire Distillery Tasting Room

Black Shire Distillery was an instant hit on our Hermann girls’ trip. The atmosphere is cool yet welcoming, with an energy that makes you want to stay for “just one more” (and then happily agree to another). The craft cocktails are balanced and creative, and the spirits carry that unmistakable small-batch quality you can taste. Every member of the team was friendly and engaging, making our time there feel personal, not transactional. It’s a must-stop whether you’re a whiskey lover, cocktail enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates a good pour and great company.

My husband and I loved touring Black Shire! Our tour guide was great, very informative and engaging. The property is beautiful with lots of cool history. We'll be back next time we visit Hermann!

Awesome time at the distillery. The mixed drinks were amazing if you like drinks that are smooth and dont taste like alcohol, if you prefer the taste then try the flight although straight up they are a bit harsh. Ask for JD, he was amazing and very knowledgeable. 10/10 would come again just for JD.

We had a really disappointing and uncomfortable experience. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. With so few customers in the place, we expected a more hospitable attitude—but instead, we felt rushed and as if our presence was an inconvenience. It’s unfortunate, because we were looking forward to supporting a local business, but instead we left feeling awkward and unwelcome.

My husband and I went on the distillery tour with JD. He was super knowledgeable, approachable, and fun to talk to. We loved the farm, its history, and of course - the whiskey! The tour was well worth the price. Great mixed drinks and JD took several pics of us for great keepsakes. Thanks so much - would definitely return.

JD was amazing! He explained the different drinks to us, gave us good mixing options, and even showed us how to take masterful selfies! He was so knowledgeable, personable, and polite. We had a great time and highly recommend this place to anyone and make sure to ask for JD to help with your tastings!

Was here with my now fiance and did a tasting with JD. He was fun and walked us through the spirits we tried and helped us with mix ideas and even selfie advice! The whole experience was a lot of fun so thanks for that JD, would come back happily.

The mixed drinks are really good. Order the blackberry lemonade or the lavender lemonade!
No food, just pretzels or Cheez-its or poppy popcorn mixes.

I can't say I tried a wide variety of drinks or food from here, nor did I come at a time that was very busy so the staff would have been strained a little, but my wife and I had a great experience. Very friendly bartender, overall good whiskey, and the gin was one of the best gins I had ever tried.

We did the mixology class with Jess and it was tons of fun and something different to do in Hermann. You learned how to make 3 fancy cocktails, has snacks, and enjoyed the afternoon. You could tell she went above and beyond to decorate the space and prep for the event!! We would definitely do it again and would love it if more were offered in the future.
