Still dreaming about that fluffy grapefruit juice….ask the bar about their homemade limoncello and “soul food” digestivos and aperitifs! You will not regret giving this a try.

The first bite of the mushroom doughnuts with taleggio sauce sealed my positive review of @bar.medici in pen. This chewy not-quite-doughnut-texture bread bite is dusted with umami and dunked in the highest end of "cheese dips." 11/10. Worth going here for the cocktails and this. The salad escarole was great too though: one of those dishes that tastes like each individual ingredient at its peak, with plenty of salt and deep fried bacon bits. The spaghetti a la chittara was good: delicate, perfectly cooked noodles, the right hint of crab, and the Aleppo pepper dust on top is brilliant. I would have taken a bit more creaminess/sauce (I am a sauce girl, after all). The gelato was so much better (and bigger) than I expected. It's indescribably creamy as only the best European gelatos are and the flavor is at 11. The pistachio gelato isn't so much pistachio-flavored cream as it is a ball of creamy, cold, intense pistachio flavor. So good, but the toasted marshmallow was even better: a few crumbles of graham cracker to give crunch to the perfectly smooth gelato. 10/10 The cocktails were wonderful. On par with the other members of this restaurant/bar group with creative flavor pairings and beautiful presentation. I think my favorite was the Tribune (rye, gin, fig, thyme, cider), which the server said was oddly like a Jack and Coke (and she was right). We also had the focaccia, which was just ok (I would have rather had 3 more doughnuts!), the beef tartare (which I couldn't taste any of the truffle or egg yolk in, so it wasn't really as rich as I hoped), the sword fish (perfectly cooked but the sauce is really the star -- you could just eat the greens and sauce and it would hold all of its appeal), and a lovely little roulette of beef in a spicy tomato based sauce. Service was attentive (beware, they'll take your plate before you finish swiping up the yummy sauce!), and we didn't feel rushed at all. We also got plenty to eat and didn't spend quite as much as I expected (I expected the $$$$, haha).

Bar Medici is by far one of my favorite bars in Kansas City! I received an e-mail regarding their opening in December and decided to go and try my friends and I finished dinner at Capital Grille. As you entered there was someone to greet and check your coat (optional), followed by seating you. The ambiance, aesthetic, music selection, service, and drinks were amazing! I highly recommend the Frizzante if you have a love for Vodka!

This restaurant/bar, on the first floor of the Reverb apartment building in the Crossroads Art District, reminds me of the fine dining restaurants in Florence, Italy but without the hazardous driving conditions on the streets of Florence. There are two parking lots across the street from Bar Medici. They are private and cannot be used by restaurant patrons. To avoid the need for on-street parking, we used an Uber to get there. The Mercury Room on the 14th floor of the same building has the same owner, Exit Strategy company, which also manages the Monarch bar off the Country Club Plaza. We had dinner with a bottle of wine at Bar Medici. We skipped dessert and instead took the elevator to the Mercury Room for after dinner drinks. The bottle of wine we had with dinner was Poggio Anima Pecorino. We were happy to see it on the wine list, since it is an Italian white wine that goes very well with seafood and is not widely available in the US. The grapes for Pecorino wine are raised in the eastern areas of Italy, and the resulting wine is available mostly within Italy. Since it is not widely exported, it is not often seen on menus in the United States. For dinner as appetizers we got the Porcini Ciambella (savory mushroom donuts) and the Spaghetti with Snow Crab. Both were innovative and wonderful. For our main course, we both got the grilled swordfish (Pesce Spada). Also excellent. In addition, the service met the standards of the best fine dining restaurants. We were especially impressed by the server's wine etiquette, which was a match for the best in Florence. For after dinner drinks with a view in the Mercury Room, we asked for recommendations from the server of good choices for after dinner drinks. We were both very happy with the cocktails she recommended, which were Kwerk and Kyoto. Reservations use Tock with a high deposit required, subtracted from the bill at the restaurant. In addition, the server asks for your credit card, when you order. I did not mind either of those policies at such an elegant restaurant and bar. But what classifies Bar Medici for us as special occasion dining is the lack of a moderately priced house wine or happy hour discounts on drinks. For frequent regular dining, we are not willing to pay more for drinks than for food. For special occasions, yes.

Stunning decor and cocktails were so delicious! Service was excellent as well. Highly recommend for your night out.My only side note for improvement on food (hence the 4 stars instead of 5) would be dessert. We had the pistachio gelato was just ice cream and the affogato was very acidic, but everything else was incredible!

Heads up: $20 per person for a reservation and no guarantee. You maybe cancelled last minute. Would you purchase a theater or airplane ticket like this? Especially surprising because Bar Medici was almost empty. Also, note that a 20% tip, called a 'hospitality fee', is added to your bill. And, the default on your electronic tab is another 22%. Beautiful space and service. Food excellent, not exceptional. Just be careful. There is a reason that the Medici family of Renaissance Florence were wealthy, and their bank is no longer in business.

Great ambiance. Very good food. Reasonably priced. On the negative side, we felt the wait staff demonstrated inexperience including the host. Immature for this caliber of dining. We also found the reservation deposit unusual though this may be a growing trend and it was fine because we knew we would show for our reservation. I did not like them asking for a credit card to "pre-authorize" the cost of our meal. I have never experienced that type of request for a simple restaurant meal. They automatically add a 20% tip for the diner's "convenience". I might have left a bigger tip if that had been presented as an option but it was not. I don't think I will be back due to these annoying nuances.

Amazing experience only surpassed by the service. Wonderful atmosphere, but not to bougie. Exceptional city experience, with food that challenges the palate. 10/10

This space is absolutely breath taking. The food and drinks did not disappoint either. The staff was extremely accommodating and provided an excellent level of service. My personal favorite was the crab spaghetti dish, it was delightful! I can’t wait to go back and try some of the desserts!
