“Went to Barbacoa, 5500 Troost, for brunch Sunday morning, what a delightful experience. I ordered Monie’s plate. It was mouthwatering. The serving was so generous, that I took half of it home. The corn tortillas were soft and warm enough to make a taco, the beans were flavorful and not spicy, the carnitas were fall apart tender and very tasty, perfectly fried potatoes, and fluffy scrambled eggs. The salsa was very tasty and not overly spicy. The coffee was even tasty (Costco Kirkland medium roast). Unlike some breakfast restaurants, the background music was so low and mellow (helps with digestion), I could hear my friends talk. We have to go back during the week for dinner. UPDATE - I forgot one very important thing, the service was excellent. Our group was one of two in the restaurant, but shortly afterwards other start to arrive. There was only one friendly waitress, who, despite the growing crowd, was able to get back to us about more coffee and to check on us”

“We happened upon this place, honestly. Because we needed to use the restroom but, we wanted to be good patrons and checked out the menu. Opted for the Jerk Chicken Bao Bun & Blackened Shrimp appetizers.
Oh my god!! I swear, they have the absolute BEST jerk chicken I've ever tasted. Perfectly grilled/smoked and flavorful and just the right spice, on a soft steamed bun. The blackened shrimp was also phenomenal with great char and served atop jerk sauce and tropical fruit to complement the heat & sweetness.
The gentleman who served us (our bill said his name was Jims D) what a great conversationalist. We talked about the history of the place and how they are working to get their liquor license (which is taking quite a bit of time with the city, btw). We were having about the food and he mentioned another dish they were cooking up, which included this amazing cheezy/garlicky mashed potatoes. Tasted like it had both regular & sweet potatoes. If we weren't already so full, we would've got some to go!!
If you're looking for a chill atmosphere and tasty Ethiopian/island food - this IS the place to go!”

“Loved the amazing atmosphere at Nour’s! It sits at that perfect intersection of high-end fancy and accessible - without even a whisper of pretentiousness. The space is inviting and feels very luxurious but isn’t off putting at all. It’s worth a look around to see the art and decor.

Loved the food! We tried the muhammara and the samke harra (baked branzino). Everything was delicious and well seasoned.

Service was somewhat slow, but we didn’t mind. Will happily return for more delicious Lebanese food!”

“Really fun atmosphere, great service and great food. The Al Pastor tacos were my favorite blending unique flavors of sweet fruits with small pieces spicy jalapeno peppers. A real treat for the taste buds. We went on a Tuesday night which was Taco Tuesday. They had $3 tacos (you can pick from four options) and discounts in drinks. I tried the Al Pastor, Cheeseburger Taco, Buffalo Cauliflower, and Chicken Tinga. All four were very good.”

My card was declined. Which puzzled me. I don't keep much money in my account, but there should have been much more than enough to cover $6 and change. (Figured out later that it was because they put a hold my last deposit - even though it was drawn on their bank - AND - there was a big funds freeze from a recent small gasoline purchase.) I was surprised and embarrassed and apologized. I was about to pull away when the young man looked at me and said: "Don't sweat it. I got you." Pulled out his wallet and swiped his card for my meal. People are good. I'm going to do something to make that young man glad for his act of kindness soon if I can. If you happen upon him (his mask was a modified neck gator (had ear straps, but also covered the back of his neck) with a sort of blue tribal print on a black background and came to a point on his chest, somewhat like a bandanna would - tell him thanks for me.”

This past weekend we went to KC on a whim and knew they were booked and decided we would be fine with a seat at the bar. When we inquired about a table for 2, the hostess explained that they were booked and could sit at the bar. We were totally great with that! But the “head honcho” came out of nowhere and told us he actually had a table for 2. The cherry on top? “Really fun atmosphere, great service and great food. The Al Pastor tacos were my favorite blending unique flavors of sweet fruits with small pieces spicy jalapeno peppers. A real treat for the taste buds. We went on a Tuesday night which was Taco Tuesday. They had $3 tacos (you can pick from four options) and discounts in drinks. I tried the Al Pastor, Cheeseburger Taco, Buffalo Cauliflower, and Chicken Tinga. All four were very good.”

“My husband and I drive from Omaha at least twice a year for date weekend and we always dine at Stock Hill. We love love love the ambience, service, food, all of it. It hits the mark for that dreamy, darkish, amber glow ambience, especially in the later months. This past weekend we went to KC on a whim and knew they were booked and decided we would be fine with a seat at the bar. When we inquired about a table for 2, the hostess explained that they were booked and could sit at the bar. We were totally great with that! But the “head honcho” came out of nowhere and told us he actually had a table for 2. The cherry on top? He proceeded to seat us at the table we first sat at when we went there for date weekend years ago. Thank you! 🥰”
