“Went to Barbacoa, 5500 Troost, for brunch Sunday morning, what a delightful experience. I ordered Monie’s plate. It was mouthwatering. The serving was so generous, that I took half of it home. The corn tortillas were soft and warm enough to make a taco, the beans were flavorful and not spicy, the carnitas were fall apart tender and very tasty, perfectly fried potatoes, and fluffy scrambled eggs. The salsa was very tasty and not overly spicy. The coffee was even tasty (Costco Kirkland medium roast). Unlike some breakfast restaurants, the background music was so low and mellow (helps with digestion), I could hear my friends talk. We have to go back during the week for dinner. UPDATE - I forgot one very important thing, the service was excellent. Our group was one of two in the restaurant, but shortly afterwards other start to arrive. There was only one friendly waitress, who, despite the growing crowd, was able to get back to us about more coffee and to check on us“

“Used to live across the street years ago. Watched the city bus driver regularly jump out of the driver's seat at the corner stop, run in and grab his to-go breakfast in the mornings. If I didn't already know they had the best breakfast around, I suppose that would have been a good clue. Lovely family too. Don't miss the chile verde pork, and say hi to Augustin for me.“

“🚨GUACAMOLE CHANGE! We’ve been coming to Ponaks for 30 years. The guacamole has aways been one of our favorites. Today we ordered it and immediately noticed something was different. We asked the server and he confirmed that they have changed their recipe, and it’s for the worst. They’ve added “filler” by putting pico and other ingredients into it. “Run, don’t walk. This place is so damn good. I have had many of tacos in my life….these are truly at the top of my list. The KC taco….chefs kiss. The suadero….dont even get me started. A Mexican Dairy Queen, from quesobirra's and sopes to banana splits and mangoneada's. It has a good variety on the menu. Support this place, once they invest more in that park and neighborhood this place will go far.“
