My wife and I were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our anniversary, and Barbacoa absolutely delivered. From the second we stepped inside the cozy spot on Troost, we knew we’d picked the right place. The vibe is intimate and warm, perfect for a date night that feels elevated but still totally relaxed.
The service was outstanding. Our server was friendly and attentive. She made great recommendations and checked on us just the right amount, never rushed, never hovering. It made the whole evening feel effortless and special.
We started with cocktails, and they were fantastic. Creative, well-balanced, and the perfect way to kick things off. Then came the food, and every single dish was excellent. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and everything is cooked with such obvious care. We were both blown away by how delicious it all was.
We left smiling, full, and already talking about when we can come back. Barbacoa is now firmly on our “must-return” list in Kansas City. If you’re looking for a memorable meal (especially for a special occasion), do yourself a favor and book a table. You won’t regret it. I recommend getting a reservation, but it was also a busy weekend.

Probably the best cooked meat I’ve had. We had the queso, papas machas, beans, and smoked carnitas. They were all excellent and we enjoyed the service. Our server paced the dishes out nicely for us for a nice dinner with friends while not feeling rushed. Don’t sleep on their cocktails as well.

The food here is amazing, extremely fresh ingredients and chef inspired flare to every dish that really makes you feel like you are receiving way more than what you paid for. Everything me and my wife got pretty much knocked our socks off, the chicken was some of the best I’ve ever had, the suadero was also high ranked. I just moved from Texas so that says something. The deserts are to die for and the service was awesome. 100% would recommend this to anyone I know and look forward to trying more items on the menu.

Everything they do here is fantastic. They are so creative with their meals, taking normal concepts that you've had countless times in other places and doing something a little bit different (or a lot different) that takes it up a notch or two. Same thing for their coctails. It's really a joy to come and experience.
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the service (we're not there super regular but they recognize us!). They'll take care of you - and if you're not sure what to order, ask them! They'll truly figure out what is the best choice for you.

This is my favorite restaurant in KC. I'm not really a restaurant repeater because I'd rather try something new than go somewhere I've been before, but Barbacoa's ever-changing menu that's always solid keeps me coming back. Not only is the food incredible but the portions are surprisingly large. I usually don't have room for dessert because I'm so full from dinner, but when I have had the dessert, it's been great. Cocktails, food, ambiance, and service are always 10/10. Truly a great place that I highly recommend.
