One of the best upscale Mexican food experiences I have ever had. My husband and I went here last night and sat up at the bar for dinner. Colton, the bartender, welcomed us warmly and went over the cocktails and food menus with us. We started with their margarita and tried a couple of others. We ended with their spin on an espresso martini. Delicious. For dinner, I would have to say that the ceviche and chicken mole were our favorites. The ceviche was served with fried saltines. Genius. So good. Can't wait to go back!

Every time we go, I tell myself to leave a review. And even though I know better, I think I’ve been trying to keep this for myself because I never end up writing one. But that’s not fair - and I’m foregoing selfish for sharing. Starting now.

You guys have to try this place.

It’s not just elevated Mexican food good. It’s Kansas City barbecue good. If you ever see suadero, that’s the easy choice. Hands down the evolution of KC barbecue I’ve always needed in my soul. But it’s also every single dish. I cleaned the plate on a mole blanco carrot dish. Carrots. Yeah - I said carrots. A co-worker offered me a bite of her leftover fish dish the next day at lunch and it was still incredible the next day. Yeah - I said fish. Mole the way mole ought to be, but with an amazing smoked chicken under it. Birria that will test your ability to forget you’re civilized and drink the consommé from the bowl.

Eat every app. Eat every main. I’ll have to update the review if, in some distant future, we make it to dessert.

Every picture you see here is going to look Insta perfect - every dish we’ve ever had hit the table is cookbook worthy. So instead, I’ll add a drink menu. Always the same classical bones in the choices - with something for everyone, plus an inspirational exploration of the tequila and mezcal genres - but with a different twist each time. It’s just enough to make you consider expanding your own home bar. Again.

I’m sharing now. This is one to share.

This place is awesome. Very unique menu with delicious options. We had the ceviche and queso dish for starters followed by an amazing Barramundi fish dish. The staff and the chef were very friendly!

The food has no flavor. The waitress didn't explain the menu or that it was very spicy. The food was very bland and gave us food poisoning en general so bad.

A truly amazing restaurant with an awesome staff. Madeleine came in clutch (thx for the hamburguesa!) during our dinner, showing so much kindness. Love this place.

Had a great dinner at Barbacoa for a friend's birthday dinner. I really enjoyed both the queso fundido and the carnitas. The service and atmosphere were great as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I also really appreciated their efforts to accommodate my dietary restrictions. Highly recommend and would definitely go back!

We celebrated wedding anniversary here. Fun atmosphere, and great food. Bar service was great with plenty of non alcoholic options as well. Everything that came out of the kitchen was delicious. Save room for dessert! And our service was excellent.

This is my second time at Barbacoa. Each visit has been uniquely excellent. I know the food scene in KC is a true secret, but this restaurant might be the best of dozens of hidden gems.
The food was otherworldly - unique, delicious, reasonably affordable. Our service was perfect - attentive and unassuming. I like the aura inside the restaurant. Plus, the cocktail menu is modern, with some classics, but all were nothing short of amazing.

Loud, awkward dining room, service was terribly lacking, drinks were a huge disappointment and the food was even worse.

This place had been on my list for a long time. I had seen on social media as well as heard from friends how delicious it was. I finally went with a friend who had also been wanting to try it. This is a can’t-miss addition to your list of Mexican restaurants in Kansas City, and they do it with a barbecue flair. Each dish is more flavorful than the next, by the end of the meal you’ll have a hard time choosing your favorite. We ordered:

- ceviche
- papas con ajo
- suadero
- salt and lime cocktail

I loved the chill vibes and how the decor isn't over the top. Overall between the seating, bar set up and staff, it is a cool place that is focused on giving customers a good experience. I will definitely be back!
