Tiger the GM was very helpful of getting me the receipt for my business trip. Thank you again for all your help. Highly recommended to go when in Kansas.

We went to Cafe Trio, 1/17. It was mixed with fun, seeing our favorite people, and the feeling of attending the funeral of an old friend. Trio has been my go-to for 15 years.
Cara is the best in the business. But the new staff? My partner went to the restroom, I went to the bar to talk to a friend. Cara had just brought us a bottle of Presecco, poured two flutes and two waters. Two small plates were on our table with roll ups on them. In the three minutes I was gone, they bussed our table! Who does that when they can see the table has been freshly set, a folded coat on the seat and two full champagne flutes?
As a business owner, I understand it requires a superior, quality product or service to be successful for 20 years, in a highly competitive business. But at the same time, as with my business, the people factor can be as important, or more so, than the product.
That formula WAS Cafe Trio. Sure, the food is always awesome. But you go there because you know the owners, staff and it feels like family. It feels like home.
The new owners have taken over and have no idea there IS no Cafe Trio without the heartbeat of the business. Chris, Tai, Lucinda, Richard, and Cara? THEY are and were Trio. We went to honor Cara’s last night. Everyone but Richard have already left, under the new ownership.
If I was to place a bet, my money is on you’ll watch Trio come to a slow, painful end, because they simply don’t “get It.”
The former owners, Chris and Tai, came back for Cara’s last night, as did I. There were enough hugs and tears It felt more like a funeral than dinner. And like the funeral for a friend, luckily, you only have to attend It once.
I’m pretty sure last night was my last trip.

Limited menu is understandable with restaurant week, but no happy hour or drink options. Food was good and service was great. Will definitely come back again after the renovation.

A delicious steak medallion dinner. Beautiful view of the Plaza lights, get reservations for the enclosed patio after Thanksgiving.

We were just there for New Year’s Eve and the meal was amazing. Every course was perfect and delicious! Lobster bisque, and a wonderful salad, and sea bass for me, prime rib for my husband, and a wonderful chocolate mousse something dessert, and a champagne toast! What a wonderful perfect evening we had with two other friends couples!

This is one of our favourite spots in KC dating back to the days when it was on Broadway. We once again enjoyed a wonderful meal with friends.

We used to LOVE Cafe Trio. They had a braised short rib arancini that we were obsessed with. Our waiter said the menu changed with a new chef, which was a bummer but we understood. We had the whipped ricotta instead and it was…fine. It’s advertised that it has sun-dried tomatoes and garlic, but we found it pretty flavorless. I ordered the Fresh Pasta which is described as a pancetta carbonara, but when it came out it was really more like a vodka sauce. This may have been due to the confit tomatoes but definitely not what was expected. There was also some odd texture issues (crunchy) that I couldn’t identify. My husband got the braised short rib meal and pomme puree and that was honestly the best part. The meat was incredible and tender and the potatoes very smooth and flavorful. We were on the enclosed patio which had a couple heaters, but it was 20 degrees outside and simply not enough. Overall it was fine, but we miss the old Cafe Trio and probably won’t be back.
