My cousin and I ate here late at night after coming from the NASCAR race on May 5th, 2024. Great food, great service by the waitress and the dine in atmosphere was incredibly nice! I recommend it to anyone who is looking for the best barbecue in town, open late, great food, this restaurant is the one. Thank You all so much!

Heard this was the must try place of many. I'm kosher, so I got the chicken. You get a nice big portion for about 8 bucks. Comes with baked beans, which were very delicious. The chicken was OK, I wasn't a really big fan of the bbq sauce that came on it. I did enjoy the sweet sauce they had more. My husband had potato salad and the long ribs. He said that they weren't fall off the bone and as I watched him eat, he did struggle, lol. The sides are overpriced to me, we paid for two personal sides me tioned before, and it came up to almost 11 and some change. The yammer pie was a small personal pie for about 5.50. The service person that checked in on us was very pleasant and easy to talk to. Gave us some suggestions on other places to try. The cashiers were ok.

The food is always delicious. Don't read the signs though, they are just there for decoration I guess. I was told the signs don't matter when trying to decide which way to order.

My favorite item at Gates is the nooner sandwich... it's so satisfying. Piled high with two cuts of meats and their BBQ sauce is top notch also. I pile on the sauce after every bite.... it's tangy and tasty. On top of that you pay under 10 dollars for the nooner.. that in my book is a deal! Also they provides all customers with free coffee.. and great customer service. Being a long time kansas citian, I remember decades ago I actually ran into Mr. Gates and his wife. Coming back to Gates always brings a little nostalgia for me. I guess this is what KC BBQ is all about. This a must try place.

I went here today and had questions about pricing on a particular meal. I asked two different questions but 2 of the women referred to only one question and argued with me saying I was wrong and they were right. Terrible customer service!! From my experience, you will get complete unprofessionalism and bad attitudes if they don't favor you as a customer. I will NEVER return to this location again.

This place has really declined over the years and that is a pity. Today there was a major bottleneck in line and my sandwich was cold. I guess in desparation they are now rationing the sauce and ketchup. Location badly needs updating. Will be surprised if they are still in business 10 years from now. No evolution. Just look at Winsteads.......Parking: Numerous.
