Personally was not impressed. Salty BBQ over smothered in sauce, and WAY too expensive.

The sauce was ok but it’s so much sauce you can’t taste the food itself. The part that was the meat had no real flavour

I really appreciate the old school service but the Beverage area needs to be cleaned and the chicken sausage was dry. Beef sandwich was good. Keep the old school charm but it needs a deep clean.

I probably got the wrong entree, turkey sandwich. We were from out of town and they move the line quickly, we felt rushed in ordering. Hostess was nice.

The space was filled with our family (after a funeral) and the support team (busers) on the floor were incredibly kind and sensitive to all of our needs. Including moving tables and providing help with other items that they didn't have to. They went above and beyond.

The food needed a lot of TLC and they had run out of a few things. Otherwise, it carried the traditional living Gates (Kansas City) experience.

Good ribs! I wish they had more meat on the bone, but still good!

We went on A Sunday. This is kind like cafeteria style. Tray and walk. However, the customer service is lacking for sure. Understand the Seasoning is HEAVY. Didn’t know that. The BBQ sauce was okay. The food was decent. The booth seats were not comfortable very old outdated atmosphere. The music is loud and even louder in the bathroom. 3/10 wouldn’t recommend.

I would not waste my time in KC for BBQ like this. It was not very good and I would hate for you to waste your time and money on this .the service was terrible. There literally was AC vents in the ceiling dripping water down onto your food. God only knows what that water might be contaminated with. Gross I will Absolutely never go back.

I will preface this review by saying I did go late, but on a road trip and wanted some well recommended KC BBQ and this was recommended many times over.

This wasn’t what I expected burnt ends to look like, it more felt and tasted like all the left overs once you slice the brisket and are cleaning the cutting board topped in sauce.

Not a sandwich I would recommend but I’m also not a local so my understanding of burnt ends could be completely wrong. Also for Togo food at least over the sauce on the side so by the time you get it to where you’re going it’s not completely soggy where it’s hard to pick it up.

Again I went late, so I’ll give them the slight benefit of the doubt.

Holy crap. How does this place even call itself BBQ. I've eaten bbq all over the country. Its kinda my niche. This has taken the number absolutely worst spot in the COUNTRY. What i wanted was burnt ends, sliced brisket, and some JC sausage. What they tried to give me was 3 sandwiches. After I finally convinced them I didn't want any bread, they served my up 3 plates of the trashiest BBQ I've ever seen. And then charged me for 3 sandwiches. Im posting 2 pics. Please tell me where the burnt ends are. This was absolutely disgusting.

We were visiting Kansas City from St. Louis and really wanted to love this place after seeing it on TikTok, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. We spent $113 on takeout and ended up ordering pizza back at the hotel because the food was inedible.

We ordered 3 short ribs, 2 burnt rib sandwiches, 2 burnt end mac and cheeses, potato salad, and fries. Everything was either overcooked or had an off flavor. The sauce was not good at all. My kids and mom couldn’t even eat it, and I honestly feel like it was the worst money I’ve spent in a long time.

I really wanted a great Kansas City BBQ experience, but this was far from it. If you’re looking for good BBQ, come to St. Louis instead, you won’t be disappointed.

Worst experience at this location in my history of eating at Gates. This is my home town favorite stop. Just got in to town and ordered the president’s platter. $200. The chicken was dried up, beef was tough. So I talked with the manger and she could care less. She refused to acknowledge my concern and insisted that the food was fine and made no effort to address the issue. My out of town family was so dissatisfied more food found the trash than the stomach.

We had the Sunday special, chicken on bread with sauce all over the place. We had two sides. The place is clean and the environment is fun. Staff is ok.

Danny Carey, the drummer from the band Tool recommended this place. He said its the best BBQ he's had.
