Grunauer isn’t a place I’d go all the time, but I love going when I’m craving something “that feels like a home cooked meal”. The food is different than most places around KC. It’s all very filling, but so good. The staff do a great job of explaining and recommending dishes on the menu. Don’t let it overwhelm you. Be sure to check the daily specials before choosing what day to go!Parking: There’s a parking lot in the back shared with Lydia’s that is free if you save your receipt from the meal.

My wife Gina and I had the Schnitzel and it was as good as we had or better in both Salzburg and Berlin. The Stiegel draft beer bought back memories of visiting the brewery in Austria. Highly recommend a visit it’s a great place. Our server was great as well open.

Excellent dishes each time we have gone. The only complaint is that their bread is on rotation and our favorite rye bread wasn't available. Luckily everything else is absolutely fantastic and it is a first world problem that I didn't get my rye bread.

One of my favorites, it's an upscale place with super friendly staff. If you like to drink ask the bartender for an Amaretto Sour with a shot of bourbon!

Who would have thought that some of the best German/Austrian food in the U.S. might be tucked away in the Crossroads neighborhood of Kansas City? We were just blown away by our dishes. I had to have the Käferbohensalat, heirloom beans with a bacon vinaigrette over whipped ricotta and my husband and I both had goulashes, his mushroom, mine beef—outstanding. I ordered a side of sautéed spinach, something that can be tricky—too buttery, salty or wet. This was the most amazing spinach I’ve ever ordered, which speaks to the kitchen’s precision. Chef Matthias Seyfried is sets a very high bar for German food with a light modern twist, but not deviating far from originals. The wine list from Austria and Germany is outstanding. The stylish dining room is in a renovated freight warehouse. Our waitress knew the menu completely and made terrific recommendations. You’ll love this place.

We went for dinner here on Easter night and had a wonderful meal. I had Hungarian Gulasch (sp?) and spaetzle, as well as apfelstrudel. All were just delicious. The others had dishes I can't even phonetically spell but seemed to be sausages and stuffed pork, kind of like Chicken Cordon Bleu Austrian style. I would have liked a green vegetable and don't think it should have cost extra to get it. For the amount we paid, I expected a full meal--bread, vegetable, meat, etc. But we did get the bread appetizer to share, which was good and interesting (four different kinds). The only sour note was the sachertorte, which we shared around with the strudel. I expected Viennese decadence, and I am also a chocoholic, but I was amazed to discover that I didn't like it at all. Way too sweet, dry, and bland with little apricot tang. The server was excellent and kept refilling my coffee, which is truly some of the best I've EVER had and which apparently comes straight from Vienna. I would almost come back just for coffee sometime! And more strudel! The dining hall was a bit disappointing--pleasant but nothing noticeably Austrian about it, not even the music. It looked like...an old American freight house. That whole aesthetic aspect needs a bit of a reimagining, but otherwise--excellent!

Amazing. Austrian restaurant is not on everyones radar when traveling to KC, but this is not to be missed. Make a reservation, don't think twice. Delicious, authentic dishes, prepared with care and served in a beautiful setting. Highly recommend when in Kansas City. Top restaurant on our Midwest multiday roadtrip.

Fantastic experience eating here! The food is excellent and the service is great as well! Special shout out to Anthony. He described all the dishes to us. Some of the best food I've had here in the kansas city area. If looking for something different but great tasting, please check them out, you won't be disappointed.
