Horrible service. Stated was out of many drinks and bartender never lifted a bottle the whole time we were there. Waited 20 minutes and left. Many staff members standing around talking with each other.

My husband and I made a reservation to come here on Valentines Day a few days in advance. When we arrived, we were told that the online booking platform that we used (opentable) does not notify them when a booking is made and that they were booked for the night. The hostess told us we could sit at the bar, which is what we decided to do. The bartender asked us what we were out doing and we told him we were celebrating Valentine’s Day. His response was “and you chose to come to this place?” in a negative connotation. Our drinks were good and we got them quickly, but others at the tables were waiting to get their drinks for a long time and were getting frustrated. When we went to order, I asked for the beyond burger listed on their menu. When I asked for that the bartender stated that they didn’t have beyond burgers and that they only put it on their menu to “lure people in”. We waited about 45 minutes for our food and when it arrived we had no napkins, no silverware, and no condiments. The waitresses were in a corner gossiping and the bartender was either preoccupied or just ignoring us, so my husband had to go to the theater side and get napkins and silverware for us. We live near liberty and we’ve always heard great things about the liberty location and we’ve always had a great experience at the theater. It looks like many others have had a similar experience at this location, and I hope they are able to work out the kinks because it is a really cool atmosphere. And the music was phenomenal!

Vegetarian options: The menu stated that they had beyond burgers, but the staff told me that is not the case. The only vegetarian option I saw on the menu is the black bean burger.

Left the Majestic, where there was live music. Went to Johnny's to hear live music, as advertised. No live music. Very disappointing.

Music was great but that was the only upside. Terrible service. Plastic movie theatre cups. We put in a food and drink order. We had our drinks for about thirty minutes when the waitress asked if we were ready for the check. When I asked where the food was she informed me that they were so busy they closed the kitchen. I had a reservation and it was on Valentine’s Day. Had to call almost every restaurant nearby to see if they had any openings. Completely ruined the night. Would not recommend

It's a shame that this is a really nice place with a really nice atmosphere but horrendous service. Lady D, the Jazz performer, was amazing. The service from the server we had was extremely disappointing. Waited 30 minutes for our first drink and didn't get to have another drink for over an hour. Not sure what the issue was, whether they were understaffed, although there was another server who was very attentive to her clientele. Hate to give a bad review based on perhaps a bad night but have to share this experience. First time in KC and the only bad experience I've had. Rest of our time has been amazing. Want to make sure I don't just point out the negative!

This place sucks as much as others have said - went on new years, buffet was Jose Olé frozen taquitos, the bald bartender did not acknowledge our existence and we spent an hour there without ever receiving service. Embarrassingly bad. Egregious 25 dollar cover I would never have paid if I'd read the reviews.

To the owners of this establishment, what the hell is wrong with you?? We used to frequent quite often bc it was nice.. great menu with quality food, great staff, great atmosphere & great entertainment. Tonight was my 3rd & FINAL attempt at "giving it another shot". Time before last, there were only 3 other tables in the whole joint, menu gone. Just a cheap plastic display listing roughly 6-8 bar like food items, a waitor who seemed either very overwhelmed (for no reason) or he had no clue what was going on. Same w/ the Bar tender, didn't even know what an Old Fashioned was. The very last time we went, no one at the hostess stand, a dj spinning to an empty restaurant & a person who seemed like they may have worked there but was just wandering around. After sitting there for about 5-7 minutes w/ no acknowledgement, we left. Some time has passed since those last 2 visits so tonight I thought, lets give it one last shot. When we walked in, the hostess, a waitress & security guard all standing there talking & laughing. Didn't bother seating us, basically just waved us to go on in. Nice, a live band! BUT the place was empty except for 1 guy at the bar & a table of 5 young adults. As soon as we sat, a guy flies by saying he's bringing water. He zips right back, sets the waters down & we never see him again. Review the still very limited menu, decide on what we want & wait for him to come back to take our order. We wait..i look around. The bartender is standing behind the bar eating & playing on his phone. The 3 employees we saw when we arrived are still up at hostess stand flirting & playing around. We wait..I look around. Bar tender still shoveling food in his mouth & still on his phone. Finally, i get up walk over to the bar & ask bar tender if he's the one we have to place our food order with? While chewing his food states, " well, you can but it'll be an upcharge if you do"..what?! I go back to my table & just stand there looking around for ANYONE who gives a shit about this place &/ or it's customers and you know what? THEY DONT!! We left Johnnies Jazz for the final time tonight sad, SAD to see a company posses such a unique & beautiful venue with so much potential to be great, could've been one of the hottest jazz clubs in the heart of KC's Power & Light District yet they will be permanently out of business very soon bc they simply didn't care about what they had. R.I.P smh 😔✌️

I am not someone who normally writes a review, but in an attempt to save this place from going out of business I’m going to. To the owner: get rid of the bald bartender. He was a dick to the server and took his sweet time making drinks. We were the only people in the bar and it took 30-45 min to serve drinks. The kitchen took forever to get our food out to us. The burgers were dry and cold. The music was great but that was the only thing that was enjoyable. All of our food was served on plastic plates. Our server was really great and was set up for failure.

Great Jazz, Drinks took forever and they didn't have ingredients for several ordered. Food was bar food, arrived in shifts and was cold. They couldn't wait to get us moving out of there. Never asked if we wanted additional drinks
The place was empty. Can understand why. Too bad, had guests in from out of town, not a very good representative of KC

Huge disappointment. We went last night before the rush time, 5:45 PM. The first round of drinks took 30 min and the second round we never received as we cancelled the order after 45 min. The bartender prioritized walk ups to the bar instead of servers. Service was not good but the bartender was the worst.

Food is the theater food, not real menus.

The only positives were the band and the atmosphere. The band was great.

The music was nice, but they didn’t have ingredients for any of their drinks on the menu. They told us this 15 minutes after ordering. Then when we ordered our second choices, we waited another 15 minutes or so for us to be told they don’t have ingredients for any of the other drinks.
We were told they might have the ingredients for an old-fashioned.
We ordered one of those and a couple of drafts. We then waited a good long while and watched the bartender play on his phone.
We ended up leaving without being served.
This place needs to get its ingredients supply in order based on my and other reviews. Also, it shouldn’t take that long to tell us that you don’t have the ingredients for certain drinks.

Also can confirm that the food menu is just the concession stand food for the movie theater.

My GF and I were looking for a Friday night out with dinner, drinks, and live music. I found Johnnie's Jazz Bar & Grille in Liberty on Facebook. After studying I found out they had a second location at the Power & Light District which was a much shorter drive from Lenexa. It is inside the lobby of the B & B theater. The interior has an Art Deco Nightclub style with a nice-looking bar, and had a 7-piece swing band playing. Upon seating we looked at the drink menu which had s separate list of special Fall drinks. The waitress informed us that none of those were available. So, I asked for a common drink, a Bloody Mary. They can’t make that. So, I asked for another common drink, she had to ask the bartender if he could make that. He could. My GF got a regular old fashion that ended up having a strange flavor added (she thinks it was cinnamon), which she didn’t like. So, while listening to the music we looked at the food menu, which was super small compared with the one I looked at for the Liberty location. We ordered burgers with the Beyond Burger substitution. The waitress said they don’t offer that substitution. I pointed out that is was printed right on the menu, which she had to stand there and read. She then had to go back to the kitchen to verify that was available. $15 for a burger and fried at a nice quality restaurant is not out of line. However, we got a slap in the face when we received our orders on Walmart white Styrofoam picnic plates. The catsup and mustard were in tear open packets. Upon settling up we saw the common cocktails were $14 each. Upon departure we walked by the theater counter and saw that our burgers had come from the theater snack bar. I kick myself for not having checked the online reviews on Google and Yelp which tell similar stories.

This place was such a disappointment. First off we had a reservation for regular dinner time on a Friday night. The service was a joke. Waitress did not seem to have any idea what she was doing and had to check the bar for pretty much everything we ordered to see if it was available. Which by the way it was not. Half the drinks on the menu couldn’t be made and by the 4th time that the waitress came back to tell us they were out of that drink we asked what ingredients are you out of and she told us all of them. The drink had gin and tonic and some other things. We ended up ordering a straight up gin and tonic and lo and behold they could make that. So what exactly were we out of?? Also seemed like a full bar but couldn’t make any of the drinks we asked for. Bartender was also on their phone the entire time.
The food was terrible. Came out on paper plates. What a classy dining experience. No sauce on any of the burgers or the chicken sandwich everything was extremely dry. And don’t bother asking your waitress for sauce as she will have you take your own entree off her tray and then promptly ignore you the rest of the night until you have to ask 5 times for the check.
What can be expected though when the manager spends more time singing on stage than actually managing anything in the “restaurant”. While is voice was absolutely amazing it was insane to have such awful service while the manager is just singing on stage.
Last terrible and weird thing was the security at the door…what on earth are we securing? It felt weird and untrustworthy. Especially since the security guard securing god knows what was spending too much time flirting with the hostess and gabbing with the manager.
All in all…do not come here, not worth it, waste of money, waste of time. Laughable experience.
