The venue and band were amazing! Just don't order the food and you'll have a really great time.Eat before or after or go next door to the theater and get popcorn. Don't waste your money on Johnnie's food.

Went here for trivia night with a friend and while it was fun and the alcohol is good priced my server did take quite a while getting a tap beer for me and when I received it was room temp but other than that it's a chill place for what it

We just had appetizers and drinks. They were good. The band was great. They play swing jazz and have a dance floor.

Very disappointing. We have been here several times in the past and always enjoyed it. We had a reservation for 7:00 PM (that we made a month ago) and arrived a little early. We were seated very quickly. (That was the only good thing of the evening.) The room was filled with people and there was a person on stage yelling out Star Wars trivia questions. They even turned up the volume to a near-deafening point. We're used to the slower than average service here, but this time it was excessive. After 20 minutes a server finally came over to take drink orders. 15 minutes later, with the screaming Star Wars questions going, on we got our drinks. I asked our server what time the regular live music was coming on. Her response was that there wasn't going to be any that night (Friday). I asked her to please bring our bill as we were not going to stay. She said that she heard that same comment from several other customers that evening. It seems they decided to this for a couple of weeks. I got numerous texts from the venue (via OpenTable) asking if we were coming for our reservation and none of them gave us any indication of this event. If we had known, we would have canceled. Why would a place called Johnnies Jazz Bar and Grille, known for live music, host a Star Wars trivia contest and do this to their regular customers without letting those with reservations know? We took a couple of sips of our drinks, paid the bill, left a 20% tip and left. I've never had to call ahead and find out who the entertainers were in the past. I suppose I should have. They lost out on our usual 3 hour stint with food and drinks.

I thought it was deceiving. We thought we were booking Johnny's Tavern at power and light and this was inside a movie theater. We were required to pay a deposit to reserve a table, so we felt committed to stay and eat from a very limited menu.

Great space. Terrible service. Weirdly high prices for such subpar service. It wasn't even busy.

Giving this a 2.5 just because they had live music. It wasnt bad. Not great. Food was bar food. Hotdog was on the menu. If youre looking for a nice meal this isnt the place. If you want cold beer, not the place. Great service? Not so much. If you want tasty cocktails, not the place. Go to the green lady lounge if you're in the area.

Come here for a drink at the bar and some jazz, but then leave for dinner. I was misled by online reviews and I came here unknowingly for dinner. The "dinner menu" was a piece of printer paper consisting of only hotdogs, burgers, pizzas, fries, and onion rings. The closest thing to a salad was the LTOP on your burger. The only vegetarian options were both flatbreads (cheese or margherita), or deep-fried sides. There was no salmon or pasta AS PICTURED online. The waitor barely checked in on us, our food took forever, we were never offered a second round of drinks, and we had to fetch our waitor for our check. The wine selection was mediocre and over-priced, and the old fashioned was not a 2oz pour. The only positive thing about this place was the history and the atmosphere.

Johnnie's is a lovely bar on the edge of the Power & Light District downtown that features lots of live music. Have been a couple of times now to catch a couple of bands. The servers here are consistent, same ones each time and they are really nice folks. There's a minimal bar food menu that's nothing spectacular but is good enough in comparison to what you get in the area. Michael, one of the main hosts you may meet at the front is a lovely gentleman and is known to get up as a guest with bands from time to time to sing with them. A talented guy he is!Love the fact this area of town is supporting live Kansas City jazz. This town needs more of that and they'll be getting my business. If you come: parking can be dicey and crowded in this area. There's a lot directly behind the bar up the hill a few feet that is recommended but the spaces are the definition of narrow. If you're driving a big tank, and many are these days, might not be the place for you.

Cool atmosphere and awesome music. Service could have been better. We were seated right away, but it took a while to get a server, so we went to the bar and were told to wait for a server. Stick with beer, the cocktails were good but barely any alcohol in them and kind of pricey. The food menu is pretty limited so check it out before you go. The shrimp tacos were super salty, but the southwest eggs rolls were delicious.
