What a hidden gem! Our first night in KC was special. Warm vibe-attentive staff; creative cocktails & desserts, amazing dishes-best grilled octopus we’ve ever had or made; don’t leave without having at least one homemade pasta (highly recommend rigatoni with white bolognese); must start with the homemade bread & corn crab soup. Margo took good care of us. Cheers!!

Amazing food! Small menu but that focus allowed all of the food to taste out of this world. Staff was extremely attentive. A must stop anytime you are in KC.

Went in on a Saturday afternoon in Spring with a group of 4. We were able to be sat at the bar without a booking. We ordered wines by the glass, bread service, the Spanish Octopus and the Hamachi Crudo. Food was fresh and tasted amazing. Excellent texture and flavor! Service was lovely, attentive without being too much, wine was well priced by the glass and was a perfect spot for some share plates with friends. Reasonably priced for 2 drinks each and 3 plates to share was total $125 without tip.
Highly recommend. I’ll be back!

It didn't show the right price on the menu. The food was good, the taste not as original but good

Food and service were exceptional. Love that they offer mocktails. Don't skip dessert.

This is an outstanding dining experience. If Kansas City had Michelin ratings they would give a star to Novel. The egg appetizer was complex and delicious. The pork chop was the star of the show. Our server was knowledgeable and we were not rushed.

Novel came highly regarded by friends and was good but just didn't feel worth the hype or value. The vibe is clean, bright, simple, standard expensive American.
The service was great. Friendly, engaged, was willing to explain everything on the menu, frequently checking on us. Overall great service.
The appetizers started off strong. The brussel sprout salad, fried sunchokes and crispy egg. The flavors were really flavorful, unique and balanced. Then we got the rest the ramen which Eaters insisted you needed to get if available and the gnocchetta. The server did say that the flavor was mild and changed recipe recently but honestly it was disappointing with how flavorless it was. The gnocchetta was good but nothing to write home about. The pistachio pie was good. Overall it was a bit lack luster for the price which is disappointing considering the friends and reviews.

This is hands down the best restaurant in Kansas City if you are looking for a culinary experience and incredible food. I have been to this restaurant about five times now and have yet to experience a dish that I don’t enjoy. The scallops are my favorite, but everything is fantastic. They have a “chefs table” where you and a date can enjoy your meal while watching the kitchen go to work. If you are reading this review, book a reservation. It’s worth it. Btw, I haven’t been to this restaurant in about two months but I just randomly thought about how amazing it is and felt like I needed to leave a review - that’s how good it is. 5/5 stars any day of the week.

If you enjoy fantastic craft cocktails in a great atmosphere you must visit Novel. Located on the east side of the crossroads we wish we would have tried it earlier because the drinks, food, and service were all top notch. We stopped in on Friday night before First Fridays and sat at the bar since we didn’t make a reservation. Every cocktail we had was packed with flavor and creativity. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful from the bar to the bathrooms to the patio. You can tell the owner really took the time to make this place stand out. We had the bread service and the toasted hummus was incredible. We are also a huge fan of brussel sprouts and they were some of the best we’ve had in KC if not the best! The dining room fills up quick so make sure to book a reservation!

The whole setting from the time we walked in and were greeted to the end was amazing. As a whole, an exceptional culinary experience. We had the pleasure of enjoying an exquisite meal on my birthday. The entire dining experience, from beginning to end, was impeccable. I eagerly anticipate my next opportunity to dine there. The cocktails were among the finest we have ever had. We commenced the meal with the bread service, followed by two delectable appetizers. The subsequent course consisted of a blue crab tortellini, while my wife savored the pork chop entrée. Both dishes were extraordinary. Lastly, the whole staff was the absolute best. We look forward to returning sooner rather than later.
