Favorite mexican restaurant in Kansas City

🚨GUACAMOLE CHANGE! We’ve been coming to Ponaks for 30 years. The guacamole has aways been one of our favorites. Today we ordered it and immediately noticed something was different. We asked the server and he confirmed that they have changed their recipe, and it’s for the worst. They’ve added “filler” by putting pico and other ingredients into it. It’s not even close to what it was. I hope they don’t start changing their food and Margaritas!!! There is a reason people keep coming back year after year! Please dont mess with perfection Ponaks!

The best margaritas in town! We came right before the big snowstorm and had some delicious food and the best margaritas. Be careful though, they are strong! I had a delicious cheese and onion enchilada and bean tostada and it was really good. The chips aren’t the best chips but their salsas including a jalapeno salsa are both pretty good.

We decided to drive into town after shoveling snow all day. They were closing within 30 minutes last minute. We received great service/food and got our fix of strong margaritas.Thank you for being open today. Hopefully all staff and customers got home safely.

I had high hopes since the place was very busy. I ended up very unsatisfied and confused on how anyone thought this was good food. Ordered steak nachos and when I say bland I mean absolutely no flavor. So much thick low quality cheese some layers hadn’t even melted all the way. The Steak was dry and the beans tasted like nothing. You could get better food at Taco Bell. The server was great and that’s about it.
